This American-made shoe is my go-to dress shoe for blue suits (have 3 of them). Comfortable from day-one. Surprised at how women notice and compliment my choice of shoes when wearing this Allen Edmonds classic style.
A few months ago, I never even heard of Allen Edmonds. Then I saw an impressive example of their shoes on display in an upscale department store. It was obvious the well crafted shoes were in a class all their own. Reluctant to buy shoes on-line unfitted and unseen, I was partially lured by Amazon's generous return policy. I could always send the shoes back if there was a problem, I reasoned. Living on a relatively modest budget, this strand cap beauty finished in walnut is the most attractive and expensive pair of shoes I have ever purchased. My size 12 "gunboat" feet have always been a challenge to fit comfortably and correctly. I was astounded at how well these shoes fit! Comfortable in every way, no break in was required. The usual stiffness I am familiar with in other new shoes was simply not there. Very comfortable, I could have easily worn the new shoes all day long without experiencing any discomfort at all. The quality of these fine shoes speaks for itself. Another first for me; so prized are these shoes in my otherwise modest collection, I invested in a pair of cedar trees to better protect and store the shoes. This is the first pair of Allen Edmonds shoes I ever bought and knowing what I now know, they most certainly won't be the last. I am very pleased.
So there is a lot of players in the game these days as far as dress shoes go. But team, let me be very clear about one thing... this shoe is where the cheery meets the whipped cream on your ice cream sunday. I have had the middle of the road dress shoe with your standard issue rubber sole, and yes, those are leading the power rankings with Prom and other awkward teenage formal events. But seeing that I just hit my prime in my mid 20's, and knowing that if I wanted a snowballs chance in central park to be respectable in the working world, I would need to act like I have rounded third after a walk off homerun. Back to the shoe, they fit great with a dark blue suit, I have seen them worn with dark jeans and the color of the shoe compliments a variety of fall colors. The leather sole took me one night in dancing to a mildly decent swing band at a wedding to break them in. The leather sole is also replaceable, which extends the life of this particular shoe. I have good friends who have had the same pair of Allen Edmond shoes and just replace the soles, some aging over 20 years old. Call it a great shoe, call it fashion equity, call them Allen Edmonds, I am telling you, this shoe is worth the price and the feeling you get when you lace these cleats up for a night out on the town. Look good, feel good, play good.
I am a huge fan of Amazon and have never been disappointed by a product until I ordered a pair of allen edmonds shoes. The 10% price discount was too good to be true. The shoes were shipped to me from Amazons Return Center, I should have known from that alone that they would not be up to par.I opened the box and was instantly disappointed. The shoes were not in the shoe bags and had marks all over them. I have heard of seconds, but the defects on these shoes were VERY noticeable. I would have not ordered the shoes had I know they were factory seconds, I would think Amazon would have labeled them as seconds somewhere on the page.I returned the product, Amazon has an un beatable return policy, and purchased the shoes elsewhere. These are beautiful shoes and would recommend them to anyone, just buy them directly from Allen Edmonds (Free Shipping) or from your local mens shop. This way you know you will be getting the finest quality.
Amazing fit on the first try, no blisters, no chafing. I wore them to my best friend's wedding for the first time. I danced like I never danced before. I got a lot of compliments that night, both for the shoes and the dancing (well, if I'm going to pay $300 for shoes, you damn well better believe I'll be shoving that shoe into everyone's face - shallow I know).Now, were the shoes responsible for my crazy moves? I don't know. One thing to note, the shoe sole was worn out pretty badly from one night of heavy activity. I don't think that speaks to the quality of the shoe, as it probably would have happened with any shoe that doesn't have a rubber sole, so I will not detract any stars for that detail.So just a warning, if you want to preserve them for longer, don't go crazy with them. Allen Edmonds does offer a re-soling for around $ 100 - 125. As for size, with some shoes I'm a 13 and others a 14. With this one I went with a 14 and it was a good fit. So if your shoe size varies from brand to brand, I'd suggest to go with a larger size in this case.I wear them to all special events now and continue to receive compliments. I hope to hold on to them for a very long time. The only con would be the price, but you get what you pay for.
