Extremely comfortable right out of the box.

I have two pairs of the Loan Peak 6 trail shoes and wanted some boots for hiking. I honestly avoided these at first because of all the negative reviews. Tried out the Topo’s and Teva boots first and hated the feel of both. I decided to give these a shot even with the bad reviews because I love my trail runners so much. I wear a 12 in the trail runners and went with a 12.5 based on other reviews, and these fit perfect, wide toe box, nice and snug through the heel and mid soul. Here is my theory on the bad reviews; I think a lot of them are folks that have thick feet and ankles. I can see them being too snug for thicker folks. I’m 6’1” and weigh 190lbs. It is true that these do not just slide on. If you have ever had cowboy boots, they kinda take about the same effort to get your foot in, but I love this because they are snug in all the right places on my foot and do not move around to create rubs and blisters. They are very very light weight as well. I’ll amend my review after I have had them for awhile, but right now I am loving them.

Great quality!

I absolutely love these! Perfect for people with wide toes! They are so comfortable, it feels like I’m wearing moccasins, amazing aggressive tread. These are a bit roomy for me, but I wear them with heavy Sox in the fall.

Comfortable

Love the shoe. Comfortable, flexible and a generous toe box. I would love some more rigidity on the sides and around the heel to make it more structured and durable.

Favorite pair of hiking boots

I can't say enough about these boots. They are incredibly lightweight, extremely comfortable, and seem very durable. I bought these in preparation for an elk hunt in the fall. I can't wait to use them for that purpose. I have also noticed they helped immensely with my lower back pain. I did have to order a size larger. I typically wear 13's and have a wide foot. However I got a size 14 after trying on 13 in store and the 14 fit amazingly. Highly recommend!

Sizing and quality change

The sizing has changed for these. Used to fit a 10 and now the 10 is too small.Additionally they changed the design and theyre not as comfortable. The toe box is starting to get narrow- the exact reason I bought this product is the wide toe box and comfortability.I had three pairs of these before this current pair- bummer they broke something that was already fixed.

Extremely comfortable, not a lifelong boot.

These boots are extremely comfortable. If you are into shoes that let you spread your toes out, they are for you. I have bought two pairs of running shoes and two pairs of boots from Altra. However, if you are into the trend of "lifelong boots," these are not the boot for you.I bought the brown pair about 11 months ago, and I bought the grey pair as a replacement when the brown pair gives out. I have only worn the grey pair twice.Pros:Very comfortable, Secure on the feet even when laces are loose, Lightweight, good traction, easy to move in (walking, running, climbing). Can feel the ground with toes.Cons:Fast tread wear, poor quality stitchingThe damage:Brown boot: stitching on front of right boot broke. ~8 months use.Brown boot: rear grab strap snapped while being used to put boot on. It was cold and I pulled too hard on it. Cut the rest off for uniformity. ~3 months use.Brown boot: used to stamp out fire. Rubber on front of soles cut and damaged. ~10 months use.Grey boot: orange lace loop broke out of the stitching. Another is about to break. Severely disappointed, bumped from 4 to 3 stars. -2nd time wearing, broke while driving a car. These boots work great as a nonstandard boot for military uniforms/airsoft, however, they all have an odd color sole that stands out. I know a lot of people who refused to buy these shoes because the color was too expressive. I suggest changing the accent color on the brown or black boot to black or tan.

Quality shoe. Get the fit right.

Why did you pick this product vs others?:I replaced an older pair. These shoes are the greatest zero drop shoes available. Note that sizes vary and a test fit is necessary. After getting the right size, you will be set with a great walking shield for years. The only cons are getting the right size and since these are higher top, they can be a little more difficult to get on. Once on, your feet and the rest of your body will thank you in the evening for making the right choice. Once again, I prefer Altra because of the zero drop and their durability. Price may seem a little hugh but for me, it is well worth it. Thus is the ultimate hiker.
