Really comfortable shoes

I’m a 70 year old male way past my days of competitive 10K road racing but I still enjoy a good 6 mile jog in a comfortable, good fitting, well made, lightweight, well cushioned shoe. So far the Altra Torin line has given me exactly that. In the past I’ve owned Torin IQ, Torin 2, Torin 4 Plush and the Torin 5’s I’m reviewing here. I have a fairly wide foot and the Altra Natural Foot Shape Last really works well for me. I’ve owned Altra Rivera, One, Lone Peak, TIMP, Superior, and Provision. I’ve enjoyed them all, but the Torin line has been my favorites. For jogging on hard surfaces; like concrete walking paths in San Diego or black top bike paths like the Tucson Loop, the Torin shoes give me the best combination of comfort and cushion I’ve found and I love the zero drop heel configuration. As far as fit goes, I like to walk when I play golf. My best fitting golf shoes are Adidas 8.5W or Nike 9W. To get the Altras to fit right I need to buy a size 9 regular. So they seem to be a little shorter than Adidas and more inline with the length of a Nike shoe, but since the Natural Foot Shape toe box is so wide, the regular D width is OK for me, fit wise.

No Mortons Neuroma pain! The tongue doesnt bother me at all.

I knew when I got these that the tongue might be an issue like others have mentioned but with ankle socks, I don't feel it at all. I run, walk and work in these shoes and I have really enjoyed them. I really like the wide toe box and how cushioned these feel. They are very soft. It's like I'm wearing my Crocks! This is why I bought them in the first place. I have Morton's neuroma and these shoes seem to alleviate that pain. My main issue with these is that I can see the mesh material not lasting very long. I'll give an update on that later on.

Nice fit and comfort.

I got these on Prime Days for a good deal and I'm happy with them. So far did two runs - 5 mile and 10 mile with no problems- I'll update the review if I have anything to add.I love the Altra fit with the wide toe box, and my heal locks in fine without needing to over-tighten the laces. I tend toward more minimalist shoes, and these Torins have more squishy cushion than I normally prefer, but they do feel neutral and comfortable under my feet, and the uppers are also very plush and comfortable. I was surprised that despite the higher stack height and soft cushioning, they allow for good ground feel on trails even if they mute the road a little more than necessary. The only thing I don't like is the tongue is thin and stiff and the top edge pokes right into my top-foot/lower-shin, so I need to be sure to wear socks tall enough to protect my skin in that area. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5.Anyway, I think they're a good buy at the current clearance prices if you like low drop, wide-toe, medium cushion, plush-feeling shoes so long as you wear socks to keep that tongue from biting you. Maybe you could also cut that edge oof or somehow soften it or glue felt to it or something if you like very low socks or no socks.Oh yeah- I wear size 9 or 9.5 in most shoes and these I need the 9.5.Enjoy!

Great Shoe!!!

I am an 84 year old and I take 4 mile walks five days a week using a wheeled walker. plus yard work and the other moving about using two canes, this shoe is amazingly comfortable and supportive. I order the shoe 1 1/2 size larger and replace the supplied insert with a thicker one with an arch support. My left foot has been surgically rebuilt with a joint replacement so the box toe of the shoe accommodates the foot very well. I wear this shoe most days and find it comfortable, supportive, and non-slipping. .....Scotty

Great shoe, very wide, tongue hurts

Great comfy shoe, wonderful for people with very wide feet like myself, and the cushion is fantastic. The only complaint I have is that the tongue is very thin and rigid at the top so it cuts into my ankle unless I wear taller socks. Hoping it will break in after time but for now I had to cover it with some tape to wear no show socks. Fell apart in three months of light use

Super comfortable shoes!!

I have been wanting to try Altra shoes for a while now. The zero drop have always been intriguing. I transitioned to a 5mm shoe to slowly step into 0mm of Altra. If you’re considering, I would recommend just make the move as you will notice the zero drop no matter what. I was pretty surprised how much you notice it when running. I am going to buy another pair, one for everyday wear and one specifically for running. Everyday wear, you really don’t notice the zero drop much. Love it!I really like the toe box as well. My feet definitely have the room they need and not feel pinched or cramped like some other brands. Very comfortable shoes!

Tongue cuts ankle and shoe falls apart before 200 miles

This was the final straw for Altra for me. I used to enjoy their torin series, but I purchased two of these shoes and they both started to fall apart after less than 200 miles. On top of that, the tongue really digs into your ankle. I have no idea how they failed so miserably on this shoe.Altra warranty: I reached out to them regarding this, and they were less than helpful saying "the product life depends on many factors". I ran less than 200 miles on the pair strictly on the road and the upper was pulling up from the sole. They did not provide any assistance and were overall very rude. I am not going to buy any more Altra ever - their quality has declined drastically in the past few years and their customer service is abysmal. Trust the other comments- the shoe is that bad
