Comfortable and fast
Mesh uppers are super breathable. They wear similarly to other Altra models. Nice and light with not too much cushion. I wouldn't recommend unless you are accustomed to zero drop shoes. If you are, they are the best for racing.

I love this shoe. Super light, very breathable, nice and wide in the toe box, comfortable and easy. I do not wear it for running, however, just walking/daily wear. The overall construction is a little too loose for me for running, and the cushion/energy return is lower than I prefer for running. But daily wear, perfect.
Very comfortable, especially the wide toe box, I can wear them all day long. No foot pain at the of day. Just soreness
Overall it’s a good shoe and I’ll keep it, mostly for indoor treadmill running.Since I am the owner of the previous generation of this shoe, here is the comparison - to help anyone looking to upgrade. This should be named something other than Escalante Racer 2. Otherwise it confuses those of us who had the previous model (original Escalante Racer) and buy this one as a replacement.- Racer 1 is basically a sock with a thin sole. That’s what I wanted to buy again.- Racer 2 is much beefier and thicker in all places, which places it in a different category of shoes for me. It’s no longer a barebone lightweight shoe. With the additional protections in place, now it wants to travel outdoors and possibly on a trail. The current version does not look, feel, or fit the same as previous version. This one fits closer to a Altra Solstice training shoe.- Running in Racer 2 is as comfortable as in Racer 1, but you will need to get used to slightly different ergonomics. The sole on Racer 2 is a bit thicker, resulting in less feel of the surface.Padding around the heel is much thicker too.Toe box is no longer fully flexible. Rigidity is due to the added guard from the rocks (in yellow under the mesh).Shoelaces got tossed immediately after the purchase, due to color. I replaced mine with neon green ones. If you plan to order new shoelaces, the length is 50”.
For those that want a lightweight responsive shoe with loads of ventilation, zero drop, and a wide toe box, I don't think you can do better. I hope the small tweaks made to the previous version increase the durability. I'll definitely be going back for another pair when these wear out.
Awesome shoes. True to size. These work for everything from long runs to power lifting.
I really liked these BUT three months in traction is gone and a piece fell off the sole. I didn’t even run lots of miles in these.
