Lesser medial support than Provision 4/5 but longer, wider toe box
Update: After 3 weeks of use I am increasing my rating from 4* to 5, and also bought a second pair in a different color and was immediately able to go out and do a 7 miler in the new shoe. My issues with lower medial support than the Provision 4 and 5 remain, but the Provision 7 is slightly longer and has a more comfortable toe box. The 5 gave my a small corn on my left little toe and I hope running in the 7 will eliminate that. I have gotten used to the 7, it is a "normal" running shoe without the medial side laces pull up gimmick of the 4 and 5, and I hope the 8 will stay the course.Re: value for money there is nothing like being able to buy 2 pairs of shoes for the price of 1.Original review:I am an Altra Provision user from the 2.5 on, and have had the 2.5, 3, 4 and 5. The Provision 7 has an updated and narrow heel counter and I prefer this grippy feel to the loose heel counters on the 4/5. However, the last has been updated to remove footbed support from the arch areas and the medial support guiderail is now much weaker. The 4/5 were great to run on crowned roads and on turns but one has to be more careful and run more neutral. The 4/5 combined the medial guiderail with a lacing system that had the inside eyelets tied to the medial side and we are now back to a more conventional lacing system. On the positive, the laces are longer compared to the 5.So for me the jury's out on the Provision 7 since I haven't done any long tired runs yet where runner efficiency and awareness drop and the shoe needs to step up.FYI the complaint that I have on the lack of medial support is the same one that reviewer Big Reader 33 has noted. The guiderail is not the same as on the Provision 5.

Great everything shoe or gym
Very comfortable shoes. Foot pain eased. Definitely requires more foot control and strength. Notice it’s harder to perform single leg stance exercises while using. I like the zero drop and wider toe box.

Good running shoe, kind of narrow toe box
I’ve been using the Altra Provision 7 for a while now, and here are my thoughts.First Impressions and Fit:Right out of the box, these shoes felt comfortable. The engineered mesh upper is breathable and flexible, though the forefoot area is slightly narrower than what you might expect from Altra’s usual wide toe box. However, the heel cup provides good support and a secure fit, essential for stability.Comfort and Performance:The Provision 7 comes with Altra’s Ego midsole, which strikes a nice balance between cushioning and responsiveness. It offers a smooth ride and sufficient ground feel, making it ideal for daily training runs. The GuideRail technology subtly supports your foot without being intrusive, perfect for those who need a bit of help with overpronation.Support and Stability:These shoes excel in providing moderate stability. The GuideRails do a great job of keeping your stride aligned, particularly useful if your form deteriorates over long runs. They offer just the right amount of support for mild to moderate overpronation without feeling overly rigid.Durability and Traction:The outsole provides excellent traction, even in wet conditions, thanks to the grippy rubber. However, due to the FootPod design, durability might be slightly compromised compared to other road shoes. Overall, they should hold up well for everyday running and walking. Conclusion:The Altra Provision 7 is a solid choice if you’re looking for a lightweight, supportive daily trainer with a zero-drop platform. It’s comfortable, offers good stability, and performs well on the road. Just be aware of the narrower toe box if you have wider feet.

Best Introduction to Zero Drop Shoes
I love these shoes! They are my first zero drop shoes, and it took me a while to get used to not having a raised heel, but, very quickly I have come to appreciate this. My aching lower back is gone. I don't know how this works, but it does for me. I also had to get used to the huge-seeming toe box. But, I have longer middle toes, and the large toe box accommodates them perfectly. I use these shoes for walking everywhere. The orange color gets dirty pretty easily, but I find that if I take a plastic dish pad with dish soap and scrub them briefly, they clean up nicely. I like using a running shoe for walking because of the cushioning. I wear 8 mens dress shoes, and the 8.5 Altra running shoe fits well. I'm finding that they seem to get better and better with wear in terms of my appreciation for them. My next project is to find a zero drop winter boot/shoe that had the same cushioned feeling.

Not shoes I like at full price
Altras fit my feet very well. This is my 5th pair from this brand. All have been super comfortable. I’m not a runner. These are just worn as casual footwear. Wish they were a little more durable . Fabric uppers could be tougher. Also have had some minor issues with soles delaminating in small spots. I do like the comfort, and will likely continue to purchase, at marked down prices.

Great shoe recommended by our podiatrist!
These shoes fit my husband well and were recommended by his podiatrist. We’ve bought several pairs and they were all well worth the price. They have lasted him very long and don’t wear out even with daily use. They help my husbands plantar fasciitis as well.
