Provision 8
I had a hip replacement 11 years ago and was advised by my surgeon not to run anymore. Over the last 6 years I have been wearing the Altra zero drop Impulse (2), Torin 4 & 5 , and Paradigm 6 "running" shoes for casual wear, fitness walking, gym workouts, and Timps for hiking. I generally get an estimated 350-400 miles out of a pair of Altras. Between the 23mm Impulse and (older) 28mm Torin and 30mm Paradigm I find my sweet spot "road shoe" stack height is 28mm for the best combination of cushion, flexibility, and a laterally stable foot platform for good balance on a flat surface and walking across a sloped surface. The Provision is in my sweet spot. In contrast to the neutral Torin, Altra describes the Provision 8 as a "soft stability" shoe. The Provision 8 has a nice wide natural toebox shape but narrows at the arch, and downright grips my heels to provide good comfort along with, and more importantly the lateral balance support I want without feeling overly tight. There is also a pronounced firmness in the lateral (outside) portion of the heel that the Paradigm "stability" shoes no longer have after 9 months (if they ever did). Time will tell but after a few miles of brisk "tire the dog out" fitness walking, I think they work for me.

Great everything sneaker
A great sneaker. Comfortable. Easy to slip on. Relatively good looking. Altra needs to learn to make more attractive kicks with better colorways, but this is as close to the goal as possible.

Very good for what it is intended for, road runners.
The Provision 8's are clearly not the same versatile shoe as the Provision 7 is. While the 7's were good for both trail and road, the 8 is strictly a road shoe. That versatility is important to me. The tread is not as deep or aggressive, Not as grippy on slick pavement either. My new Prov8 is also about 1/4" longer than my Prov7 is. That said, a very comfortable and supportive shoe for my "tripod" feet. I continue to love all my Altra's. they last me about a year, can't run much this year due to injuries, but as they wear out, they make great yard, and driving shoes.

Added Motion control and Cushion but still an Altra!
Love Altra shoes, still a big fan of Lone Peak and have been for many years. However, the Provison has more motion control which I need as well as more cushion which makes it a great walking/running shoe especially as I get older (70s) but still has the neutral heel and wide toe box that I expect with Altra.

Super comfortable
This is my 2nd pair of Altra shoes. I’m a huge fan because of the support and the wide toe box. I ordered men’s both time to get the maximum width for my wide foot. I walk 4 - 6 miles 6 days a week. Love these shoes!
