Order at least 1/2 size up

I purchased this ALTRA Women's AL0A7R72 Outroad Trail Running Shoe because I have loved my Timp 3 shoes so much but needed a spare when we travel. These were on sale so decided to try them out. The reviews all said size up, so I did. Normally an 8.5, I bought a 9 and were still surprised by difference in size. The outroad trails were fine in the width but were still almost too small lengthwise! decided to wear for a few days and try them out before sending back. I walk about 4 to 6 miles a day. I have put about 20 miles on them and have had no problems! No need to break in, which I like about the Altra's but cannot figure out why they cannot get the sizes to fit more standardly?? These were made in Vietnam like my Timp 3, but the size is way different! Also, I generally HAVE to put my orthopedic insoles in my shoes before walking any distance in them. I tried these without my $600 insoles and so far, (20 +/- miles in) so good, NO problems. Highly recommend just know the length is going to be shorter than your normal.

Very comfortable

I usually wear an 8 or 8.5 in athletic shoes, but needed a 9 in these. These shoes take a minute to get used to. It forces your foot to roll to the heel so when you walk you plant your heel and roll through your foot. This is the best way to walk, but feels weird at first. Your calves have to work harder so don’t expect to immediately wear them all day with heavy walking without being sore. They are very cute and very comfortable. I have foot issues (loss of feeling and function due to injury) and these shoes are a relief when I wear them. I am a scientist working in a lab and wear them all day at work. Order up a size and enjoy!

Comfortable walking shoe

I like the breathable fabric on top, but it’s made out of a material that stretches out easier than most sneakers and doesn’t bounce back to its original shape as easily as some. I do appreciate the wide toe box, and just the right amount of cushioning. The back height is just right making the sneaker very comfortable. I'm not a pink person but the color is fun and much better in person. Though I really wanted to like this because the colors are so fun I decided to go with the Torin 7. It was just a better fit for my feet. Still a good shoe and may be a better fit if your feet are on the wider side in the toe box.

Love them with one problem

I really love these shoes! They were very comfortable right out of the box. I love the color also. The only problem I have had is I wore them to Epcot and that day it poured down rain. They got pretty soaked. A couple of days later, when they had dried completely I put them on and noticed a really annoying squeak in the right shoe. I chatted with customer service and they told me I could send them back and get my money back but I couldn't exchange them. The shoe had gone way up in price(I got a good deal on them) so I decided to wait and put them on again after I got home. When I put them on again, no squeak! I wore them and they were fine so I decided not to send them back. Now I can put them on in the morning and wear them almost all day but then the squeak come back at the end of the day. Trail shoes should be able to take getting wet without developing that kind of a problem. I still love these shoes and will continue to wear them. I would recommend them but would warn that there is an outside chance if you get them wet they might develop a squeak of some kind.

Comfortable

These are my second paid of Altra running shoes and I absolutely love them. They provide the perfect amount of space you need for your toes. I love that they have some cushion and do not feel heavy at all. I will say they do run a little small, I am usually a 6 and had to go up to a 6.5. I absolutely recommend if you run, hike, or do a lot of walking.

Nice alternate to the Lone Peak

I love Altra shoes for thru hiking, I have hiked over 5,000 miles in my Lone Peaks but they are too expensive to keep using so I am looking for alternates. These outroad shoes are great. They are comparable to the Lone Peaks, a little more cushion in the midsole which was nice on a recent 100 mile hike. The bottom is not solid rubber like the lone peak, there are spots where the foam peeks thru, I assume this is to cut costs and save weight in the shoes, but as long as I choose my trails carefully and I am not walking on lava or sharp rocks they hold up fairly well. I will continue to keep these in rotation especially for dirt and softer trails where I don’t need the tread as much. I woukldn’t want to use these on lava rocks or really sharp technical terrain, I would default to the lone peaks for that. But if you are looking for something a little more cushiony and cute these are perfect for a long hike or run.

Extremely poor quality.

Read the worst reviews here. Then go read the worst reviews at Altra’s own website. They’re the same. These shoes wear out within 50 -100 miles of use, not even on trails as they’re allegedly designed for.My worn out soles on the heel aren’t pictured here. You can’t hear the squeak but they do, only one shoe. What you can see in my pictures is the worn out inner heel. I’ve NEVER had this happen to any running shoes I’ve owned in 30 years. See the dark spots on top of the shoes over the toe area? What I first thought was dirt turns out to be the inner lining shredding away, visible through the top. I put my fingers in the shoes and can feel the fabric deterioration.Unfortunately I bought another pair exactly the same as these since they felt so great when I wore them the first time. I rotated these shoes with 2 other pairs of shoes I have, Topos and Brooks, so I didn’t realize the problem until it was too late to return my unused pair. Those other 2 brands have been owned longer and used much more and are still like new. From what I’ve read at the Altra website, people who buy them direct are still not taken care of. Altra is writing this low quality off to normal wear and tear. I wear padded socks. This is not normal even after hundreds of miles. And I’ve worn these far less than 100 miles.I wanted to wear these on the 500+ mile Camino de Santiago (Frances) but can’t. I’ll stick with my tried and true Topos and never buy Altras again.I only paid $65 for each pair I bought and I still feel ripped off.
