Great for helping heal from toe injuries.
I bought these shoes not to run in, but for another reason. I have an injury to my first and second toes on my right foot. Because of this, I went to a podiatrist that identified the nature of my injury, and used orthotics to isolate the movement of the two toes. While the metal plate and arch support that they prescribed did help in the healing of these two toe joints, they were also uncomfortable, causing paiun the right heal and in an already achy right knee. So I looked up running shoes recommended for Hallux Rigidis, which is essentially painful/limited dorsi-flexion of the great toe. Since the treatment for hallux rigidis is similar to the treatment of my inury (isolate the joints from moving) shoes designed for that type of afliction are also a good option for healing from toe joint injuries like I sustained. The shoes showed up and immediately upon putting them on I knew I had made the right choice. They were incredibly comfortable and cushy, but very light as well. They offer a stiff eva plate that is similar to the metal plate my podiatrist fitted to my shoe, lots of arch support (for someone with proper pronation), and the rocker-shaped sole allows me to propel forward without having to load up my great toe to use it for locomotion.I am a cath lab nurse, so I am on my feet on a concrete floor, wearing 20+ pounds of lead protective gear for 40+ hours a week. These have already helped my knees and back, as well as increase the comfort of my jog up and down the stairs to the cafeteria.I am 45 and don't run much these days (unless there is an emergency, bees, or free cake), but for many years I was a daily runner. Like all Asics (which is all that fit me for the last few years) the toe-box is very generous to accomodate the spreading of the toes to absorb shock (and also allow wide toes to fit. These shoes would be great for a more comfortable casual run, but honestly, they cushion too much for a fast pace. They don't seem to allow the same level of control as a zero drop shoe, and there is a delay as the cushioning rebounds to propel you forward, and I think that would throw off my stride when making a pass or on less stable terrain. There are plenty of reviews on here by accomplished runners that can comment with greater knowledge than I can provide, so take my opinion for what its worth. I really just want to share how much these have helped me to heal from an injury.I hope this helps someone else with similar issues find this shoe, and benefit from it as I have.
