I really wanted to love these shoes...

Ever since Adidas purchased the brand FiveTen and RUINED IT... I have been on the lookout for something to replace that ultra sticky and durable Stealth Rubber for my approach shoes. I got these Astral's in gray and was immediately impressed with the zero drop midsole, the wide toe-box and the ultra grippy rubber. The only con of the shoe was it's aesthetics but I can look past that if the performance is there and other than looks it ticks all the boxes in what I am looking for in an approach shoe. Truly comfortable and confidence inspiring on wet rocks.However, they quickly started de-laminating. The mid-sole started to separate from the shoe and large chunks of rubber were tearing off the edges of the shoe. After only 4 hikes I had to start gluing the midsole back onto the footbed. I repaired these shoes at least 6 times with glue just to keep using them.I foolishly took them on a recent trip to Chamonix after gluing them together again before the trip. I pretty much used these shoes for everything on the trip and I did several multi-pitch climbs (one in the rain on wet rocks) and a very sporty via-feratta... The shoes gripped really well for climbing and steep hikes... BUT I had to glue them back together 3 times on that 10 day trip! And even more chunks of rubber were torn off the out-sole.I want to love this brand and these shoes but the durability is just not there. I spent far too much time shopping for new approach shoes in Chamonix... luckily my friend had some glue that worked to keep repairing them for this trip. I did find a pair of Scarpa's for my next approach shoe...FYI, I am former footwear designer and product designer in general. I know how shoes go together.Also these shoes use the G.ss rubber which is very grippy. Astral's G.15 rubber is no better than any other basic nike when it comes to grip in the wet and it's very disappointing. I will give my review of their water shoes on that page.
