Great for work.
I work in a warehouse on my feet all day standing on hard cement. These boots are super comfortable and by the end of the day my feet aren’t in pain like they would be in walking or running shoes. These also provide great ankle and arch support (being flat footed this really helps). Side zipper makes putting on and taking off a breeze and they breathe really nice. Feet don’t get hot in the summer. Nonslip soles are really good when having to walk through water or an oil spill. Cannot recommend these boots enough. Great job Bates!

Always my choice of boot for activewear that can take abuse.
Great fit and value. I put my boots through all the abuse they can handle, and the Bates have not failed me yet. This is my second pair, and I will buy another pair once I've given this pair all they can take. I also wear these when I participate in airborne operations which require a water landing. They dry quickly without needed of a dryer. and also hold up well in the washer as to prevent foot stank from taking over.

Not like my old Bates boots
These boots are not my favorite. Very snug fit when you put a slightly thicker insole to replace the original. These boots do not protect from impact. You can feel what is under foot like rocks pebbles branches. Not an all day boot. Since Wolverine purchased bated I can not find a decent side zip boot that feels like the original Bates. I was loyal to Bates for over 15 years, no longer. Looking for another brand.

Slip resistance
I bought these because I was wearing the under armour micro g mid boot. Advertised as non slip, absolutely not non slip. These boots say non slip and oil resistant on the bottoms. Though they are really comfortable, Im sliding around in them. If slip resistance is a top priority I would pass on these. Looks like I may be stuck with shoes for crews.

Seems like a great choice for non boot people
Disclaimer: I've only had these boots a few days, so consider this more a preview than review. If you need (or are required to wear), but don't want boots, this is probably your best bet. Tennis shoe sizing and fit means you don't have to relearn your shoe size. If you had a comfortable walk or job recently in a pair of sneakers, then just buy that size. The heels are snug and well padded, so you won't get the typical unbroken in boot blisters on your heels and ankles. Be aware, there's not much protection from your toes if that is a concern, as the material is thin and vented. It's not as breathable as the non water proof version, but still pretty good. At 7", there is decent ankle support. My only real issue with fit and comfort is that the tongue does not have a loop for the laces to run through. This, the water proof version, has a gusseted tongue up to the bottom of the shaft, so it doesn't move around too much, but the non dryguard version does move as you walk. Bates, if you're reading this, small things do matter. The shoe has the name of a tire company stamped on in two different places. You'd think a shoe company could afford to keep a shoe specialist on the payroll for this purpose, but in his\her absence, Michelin did a pretty good job. The sole works very well on every surface I've been on so far. It is hard enough to protect from a mesquite thorn, but thin enough to be flexible and easy to move on.
