These live up to the Bates name

Pretty comfortable so far. I’m a bigger guy and work boots can make or break my day. I’ve had Bates boots in a previous profession that were amazing so the bar was set pretty high and so far they are living up to the name. As a maintenance technician I’m on my feet all day walking, crouching, hanging off of machines working on them all day and these do the job well. Fitment was spot on, virtually no break in time needed, and have good support. The only negative I’ve found so far are the laces, unless you double knit them they come untied no matter how tight you cinch them.

The right tool for your FEET!!!

The fit is good and they are comfortable for most of the day, 8 hours or longer, only if you know your proper size for your feet 👣!!!

Long lasting, 3rd pair

3rd pair. Bates is synonymous with quality. Excellent wear and comfort for composite tow shoe. Would be 5 stars except I needed upgraded insoles for my wide feet.

Worst shoe I’ve owned

Let me make this abundantly clear. These are the worst shoes I have ever purchased. I’m a male ICU nurse and wanted a shoe that had a little more protection for kicking and engaging foot controls on hospital beds and equipment. Found these shoes on clearance for $40 from US shoe maker Nate’s and decided to give an American product a try. Firstly, these are not US made but Chinese made shoes, so that’s a bummer. Secondly, these fit and Finnish looks exceptionally cheap and cheesy compared to other shoes such as brooks and UA. Thirdly, these soles have little to no give which is very painful on hard surfaces due to the lack of cushion and have absolutely no grip. I mean these things actually slip on concrete! Fourthly, the steel toe ends up digging into the side of your toes due to the flimsy tennis shoe material not keeping it in place well enough like a leather shoe would. Making these experience painful. And lastly, the shoe is entirely too large. I wear 12 wide in most shoes and this 12 fits like a 13 1/2 and looks like a 14 wide from the outside. Absolutely stupid looking. My coworkers literally call them the clown shoes because they look so goofy.

Like most good quality shoes, you need to break these in

Updated Review 22 Apr 2022:I've continued wearing this pair of shoes for several weeks and I still really like them. The catalyst for updating my review was the experience with the sprinklers this spring. I activated the sprinkler system, a process that previously had left me with wet shoes (and socks). After walking through the wet lawn and being sprayed multiple times, water did NOT ingress and my socks remained dry! I'm even more happy with this pair of shoes from Bates.Original Review 7 Apr 2022:These Bates Men's Rush Mid Work Composite Toe shoes are very stiff and need to be broken in. I had to loosen the laces in order to get my foot in. When I got my foot in, it felt like a large, spacious cavern, as if it was 1/2 size too big...BUT...when the shoe laces are pulled back up, the material comes in and holds snug against my foot, ankle, heel, etc. It is important to properly lace the shoes otherwise an ankle injury may occur. When properly laced, the laces are too long and I trip on them, so I have to double-knot.The shoes were pre-laced but I had to re-lace the top section so that the ends would come through the final eyelets going outward, because the lace was uncomfortable and cut into the top of my ankle before. I included some pictures that hopefully makes it easier to understand what I'm trying to say.I've been wearing these shoes for 3 full days and they still aren't fully broken in yet, but I'm sure that in another day or two they will be.As for the composite toe, I didn't feel like dropping a hammer on my foot to try it out, but it does seem sturdy enough to provide protection.
