My 15 year old son has a rare genetic disorder that has him lacking in his motor skills. He is unable to tie his shoes, with these he is able to put them on easily and zip up without difficulty. The shoes are heavier than a typical pair of running shoes, but made with good quality. We have bought these and high tops and both have held up over 6 months of use.

Perfect for my son wearing over AFOs (Ankle Foot Orthotics.) We've bought Billy's for YEARS and never been disappointed. They make fitting the AFO into the shoe so much easier without having to buy shoes significantly oversized. My son says they are very comfortable. I prefer the short wrap zipper. It holds up MUCH better than the zipper that goes down by his toes. We take the shoes to a local cobbler to have a lift added to one shoe. My son seems to do very well with these, can remove them himself, his doctors & therapist approve of them and it's fun to have shoes that don't look like medical shoes. I only wish they had more short wraps & color options to choose from. But we've been getting Billy's footwear for several years and will continue to do so. But attention Billy's Foorwear: older boys with AFOs like fun colors & designs too! I would buy him multiple pair if they'd provide more options to chose from!
These are the best shoes. My husband had a stroke and has edema in his right foot. He was fitted for a foot brace and the technician that made his brace told us about these shoes. Not many people know about them. I have shared the information with his PT and many other healthcare professionals who did not know about them.
FANTASTIC sneakers for people with AFOs or SMOs. It fosters independence for my son to be able to easily get his sneakers on and I don't pinch my fingers between the sneaker and orthotics!

These shoes came recommended to me by my Physical Therapist after back surgery left me with drop foot that necessitated an AFO. After almost a year of fighting with the AFO and trying other remedies, BILLY shoes made putting on shoes over the AFO effortless. I would highly recommend these shoes to anyone that wishes to avoid black Velcro shoes (Yuck). They have several different styles, and the best part is no one knows that you're wearing assistive type shoes. They are very comfortable as well.
