NO TRACTION
I haven’t bought these for my son as he is still too young for shoes (and wouldn’t buy them for him anyways, see below), but I am an ECE at a nature school so I deal with these every day. They are in fact decently waterproof and will keep your kid’s feet warm enough, even in thin socks. My students have worn these in snow, meltwater, and mud puddles and their feet have remained dry and warm.HOWEVER! If you live in a snowy climate (like me in northern Vermont), and going outdoors often is important to you, there are a few things you should know:-There is no traction. The kids that wear these boots are slipping so much more than those that have boots with better traction, which leads to frustration and a lack of esteem (which is critical for infants and toddlers just learning to move their bodies and get up from tricky spots!).-The sole doesn’t have anywhere to put a stirrup for snowsuits/rain pants, so very often the pants will slip up and snow or water will get inside.-The little Velcro strap is NOT substantial. It doesn’t hold and isn’t tight enough to really secure on little feet. Those are my highlights/lowlights of this shoe—I really don’t like them and would not buy them for my child, but I do remain impressed with the waterproof capabilities, especially since they look like they wouldn’t be!
