A lightweight hiking shoe disguised as a cushioned sneaker

I use these shoes for 3–5-mile walks (mini-hikes) on gravel and dirt paths as well as some occasional pavement. So, if you're looking for a review about how these shoes fare when scaling big rocks and hiking long distances in the wilderness, this review won't address that. But for the recreational walks and hikes that I take, I am extraordinarily pleased with these shoes.I had been wearing Merrell Moab 3 shoes, and although I love how sturdy they are, they are also quite heavy and offer little cushioning compared these Columbia Hatana shoes. If I were going to do any wilderness hiking on rugged surfaces, I might feel a little more secure in the Merrell shoes, but I encourage you to read other reviews to see how the Columbia Hatana shoes fare in more rugged conditions than what I wear them for.I am a big fan of cushioned shoes for everyday wear, and I was quite surprised to find that these shoes are even more cushioned than the shoes I use daily. In fact, "pillowy" is how I'd describe these, so the shoes provide a lot of energy return. But if you like a firm feel, the cushioning and mesh upper might be a bit too soft feeling. I was admittedly skeptical about whether these shoes would offer the stability I like in firmer shoes, so I was excited and pleased at how these shoes performed. I experienced very little slippage on gravel and walking on areas with small to medium rocks felt solid. In my Merrell Moab shoes, I don't even feel small rocks that I step on. These shoes' wide sole also absorbs a lot of rocky bumps, but I can feel more of the surfaces I am navigating than in my firmer shoes. The reason I bought hiking shoes in the first place is that as I've gotten older, I've found that I have begun to get soreness in my feet and toes during my walks and hikes (in fact, I have some arthritis in my big toes). My lower legs also feel more fatigue than they used to during my activities. I had no such soreness or unusual fatigue when wearing these shoes. I think some of my leg fatigue may have been exacerbated by the weight of my former shoes, because after a 4-mile jaunt in these my legs felt uncharacteristically fresh.A cautionary word that I can offer is that these shoes run a little larger (wider) than most. I compared this shoe to the Columbia Crestwood in a wide width that I tried on, and the Columbia Hatana in a regular width was actually a little wider than the wide width Crestwood. I need width in the toe box, and the Columbia Hatana offers a toe box that I would almost call spacious. So that works for me.The Columbia Hatana shoes actually look a lot like the mesh upper running shoes that I wear around town every day, and as I said before, they offer even more cushioning. Most people wouldn't guess that you're wearing hiking shoes, and it might be tempting to turn these into your "everyday" shoes. These may have been one of the best shoe purchases I've ever made.

Columbia Hatana Breathe Shoes Review

I bought these as I was searching for a lightweight, ankle-height hiking shoe. They’re super easy to break in after a few hours of normal wear. I would say they fit pretty true to size. I like to have a little extra toe room so I went with a half a size above. They’re pretty stylish depending on the color you purchase and you can wear them anywhere. They have plenty of tread that allows you to plant your feet where you need to plant them. They’re not completely waterproof, but they do a great job at wicking the moisture if paired with the right wicking socks. The tread holds up pretty well in the water-crossings. You don’t feel like you’re gonna slip and fall. In my honest opinion, they are pretty comfortable and I’m gonna end up purchasing a second set for work.

footcare and comfort for Plantar Fasciitis (get insoles)

My feet get hot, so these are the perfect shoe due to the breathability it provides, as well as and heel support. I began getting have Plantar Fasciitis pain from wearing Crocs sneakers on my flat feet, so I had to replace the latter with these. What a great decision! I use these with Dr. Scholl’s Plantar Fasciitis Pain Relief Orthotic Insoles. I wore these every day for 1 year then needed to get another pair. These are great for footcare and comfort.

FANTASTIC, lightweight hiking shoes

I have always used Merrell’s hiking shoes till now. But we were going to fly to the Azorean island of Sao Miguel, and wanted a much lighter pair of hiking shoes to carry and use there.I ordered a couple different brands to try and out and returned them for reasons of fit. These ones, right out of the box, fit my feet like a comfortable sock. I used them for ten days of hiking in Azores and they were brilliant.I had sprayed a waterproofing solution on to them before using, and I had zero issues or problems during hikes - on forest floors, mountainous trails, rocks, while it was raining heavily, and so on.I’m going to stop buying Merrells and just buy these from now on.
