Great Danner lite boot.

Danner 600 South Rim are better than I expected.Got them on sale at about half off from manufacture. I bought 11 EE and they fit perfect. Some may say they look bulky. And sure they do (hiking boots) but are extremely lite and comfortable. I use them to walk on concrete all day and around town. No pain on my feet. It’s like walking on pillows.Another great addition to my Danner collection.

Buy your size!

Obviously no two pairs of feet are alike, but I'm hoping others can learn from my experience, which is that it's far better to buy shoes that are slightly big than slightly small, at least if you have wide feet. I usually wear an 11 but ordered these in a 10.5 as recommended by Danner on their product page for these, which states, "Please note the South Rim 600 fits slightly large and we recommend sizing down a half size for best fit." Out of the box, the 10.5 seemed to fit fine, which is to say they passed the highly unscientific "walk around the living room" test with flying colors. Encouraged, I wore them to work the next day and they felt fine until I got on the train after work and it felt like someone was slowly tightening a vise on my tarsals. It hurt so bad I almost had to take them off on the train, but I didn't want to look like a crazy person so I endured.I ordered another pair in 11 and the pain hasn't returned. I definitely do not recommend sizing down to my wide-footed brothers. If you have narrow feet, you might fare better. Let me know?Sizing woes aside, how are the shoes? In a word, comfy. But if you buy these wanting or expecting boots, prepare to be sorely disappointed. These are sneakers in a superficial hiking boot style. They have basically 0 support for ankle or arch, and walking around in them feels more like walking around in slippers than anything else. They're very plush thanks to the soft materials used in the insole and midsole. If you like cushion rather than support, you'll like these, but I wouldn't hike in them for fear of feeling every pebble underfoot and/or rolling an ankle. As a retro fashion statement, though, they're great, and I freely admit that I bought them for their style and not their performance. If you're in the same boat (looking to burnish your 1970s hiker style), these are pretty sweet. If you want a proper hiking boot, these don't cut it.

Comfortable, Supportive and Stylish

I have been searching for hiking boots that are comfortable and supportive. The Danner Men's South Rim 600 4.5" Hiking Boot meets all my expectations. I've tried countless number of hiking boots without success until my wife recommended Danner boots. I have a wide foot and sore feet after a long walk. The Danner is well-constructed and a hardy hiking boot for long mileage across rough terrain.

Terrific boots

I rarely review anything. But I have to say these are the most comfortable warm weather hiking boots I have ever put on. I have multiple pair of Danner work boots and tennis shoes and they all run at least a half size large. I customarily order Danner Shoes at least a half size below my true fit. And always fit perfectly I typically wear a 10 but I order a 9 1/2 and Danner. These are extremely lightweight and well ventilated durable soul and within a nylon upper don’t expect to get more than about three years out of them. Terrific foot bed heel is snug plenty a room in the toe. I’m going to order another pair for back ups

Like walking on air....and no sweaty feet.

As far as comfort goes, these are the most comfortable pair of boots I have ever owned....other than my Bull Run Cristy boots, which I where to work. I have issues with my feet getting hot, especially with waterproof boots/shoes, and causing heat rashes on the tops of my feet, as well as my ankles. These South Rim boots, for me, are comfortable with thicker socks when its cold out, and will be comfortable when its warmer conditions. The cushioning from this boot is excellent, almost like wearing tennis shoes. I did order a 10M, rather than my usual 10.5M, and the fit is spot on. The only issues I have are the insoles are a little "off", meaning the footed feels a little different between both of my feet, and the heel cup on the left boot is a little wider, or the one on the right boot is narrower, possibly from shipping. The insole and heel cup issue should alleviate itself with time, as my feet somewhat mold to the boot. Would be nice if the speed hooks cinched the laces in place when tightening, but thats not a deal breaker for me. All in all, these boots are great for the discounted price I received them at, and hope they last me a long time. *UPDATE* Found that the the heel of the right boot feels as if there's an imperfection in the midsole. Feels as if there is a hard lump right in the middle of my heel. To noticeable to ignore, so sadly I had to return the boots.

Great boots!

Great boots! Ordered a half size smaller than I usually wear just because Danners seem to fit me like that. The boots are nice and wide so layering socks won't be a problem in colder weather. Right out of the box I put them on and did a three mile run without a hitch they felt like they were already broke in. They do look a little clunky but dont feel that way and are quite light and agile.
