Got these last minute for a backpacking trip. I did my best to get them broken in before I left, but I was pretty concerned they would cause blisters somehow. I'm happy to report they were perfectly comfortable the entire 60 miles. They were a little bit on the large side, but I used insoles and that filled up the extra space. Comfortable, sturdy, waterproof, they hit all the important features and did it in style. Very happy with these.
This is my first time purchasing a pair of Danner's and I am thoroughly impressed. The attention to detail on these shoes is truly impressive. The materials are high quality, the stitching is perfect and evenly spaced over the entire shoe, the soles are glued perfectly with no run-out anywhere & the eyelets are set perfectly. They are exceptionally comfortable and feel light on the feet. Pair all of that with the 90's vibes and you have a real winner. I am getting ready to purchase a second pair in black. Eventually I will probably end up with a closet full of Danners.
I sometimes wear an 8.5 or 9 depending on the shoe. For these hiking boots I ordered an 8.5 and they fit perfectly. Not too much room up front by the toe and not too tight, just perfect. I broke them in on a weekend in San Francisco. I walked across the Golden Gate Bridge, and for miles and miles on a Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. They had great traction, never gave me blisters, and are lightweight considering how sturdy they are. I would highly recommend these hiking boots.
6/5Overall: 4/5 this isnt quite what I would call a boot. It's more of a boot/skater shoe hybrid. Which is exactly what I was looking for when I bought these.Looks: 4/5 looks as good as advertised the colors are pretty spot on. Although I wish the extra laces were a little closer to the used in the sole.Comfort: 3/5 while it is more comfortable than a lot of 'urban' footwear it can't beat an actual boot. It's nothing that a thin insert wouldn't fix though. The middle of these are stiffer and bouncier than I imagined makes me wonder if there is a splint.Tread: 5/5 rubber is soft but durable and lugs are chunky enough to do some medium duty hiking.Material quality: 5/5 excellent materials used. The suede is much softer than expected and there are no frays in the stitching. Thick metal rivets are used for the eyelets and hooks, good rubber, and the duck material on the side feels like a fine canvas. Obvious care was taken when designing these shoes.6/27/2020After a few weeks of use overall quality remains great! However the insole is pretty wimpy and offered very little cushion. I went out and got Danner's Ortho insoles... Much better.
The boots are high quality and very nice style. However, the fit is not wide enough to feel comfortable. I wish they would produce wider versions. But definitely a product I would recommend.
Just got my boots today. I’ve never been more excited for a pair of shoes. I did a TON of research, because I was finally ready to spend a decent amount of money on some quality boots. I haven’t done anything more than day hiking, mostly with my family, but I wanted something that could potentially handle a longer, more challenging trip—at least better than my Salomon trail runners. How well-suited they are for something like that remains to be seen, but in the meantime, they look and feel awesome.I will say they’re slightly darker than I anticipated, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.Based on a lot of the reviews, I was worried about fit. I wear an 11 in most of my everyday shoes (12 in Nike running shoes). I ordered the 11 fully expecting them to be too big, but these are perfect. There’s just enough space for thick socks and/or foot swell. They’re a tad stiff in the uppers still at the moment, but I’m assuming they’ll break in nicely after a few days. I’ll update if that changes.Overall, I’m really happy with this purchase so far.
Do not buy these shoes for hiking, no grip for traction. On rocks these will get you hurt.
