Very warm, well fitting, great support
I ordered these boots 3 days before we left for elk camp. I was weary of the reviews saying to size up, but all that was available was my normal size I wear (6.5) so I ordered them because I was in a pinch and needed these ASAP. I'm extremely pleased with the boots all around. I think the reviews stating to size up may be due to wearing too thick socks with the boots? Are they snug? Yes, they are, but once on and worn for few minutes they felt great!! I found wearing a quality wool blend sock that isn't excessively thick felt perfect! Since these boots have 800g of insulation, super thick socks aren't needed in my opinion. I wear a 6.5 and have always worn a size 7 boot to accommodate thicker socks. I was able to wear my thicker ones too after a few days of all day hiking, but the boots did such a great job at keeping my feet warm I mainly wore my thinner socks (which isn't something I'd normally due since I have Reynaud's). I'm just trying to give feedback on the sizing and why many may have recommended to size up? So, if you're going to wear thick socks, then yes, you may want to size up to account for the 800g of insulation. But overall, I personally didn't find it to be an issue. They're snug when putting them on, but felt great hiking around from day one (I didn't even get to, or need to break them in). They are very comfortable, provided exceptional support and kept my feet warm in the snow and 17° weather. Snug boots and tight, well fitting socks are a must so you don't get heel rub and develop blisters. My only complaint is that my boots started squeaking on day 3 and I'm not certain if that'll go away? I did find that rather annoying while trying to be quite as possible. I didn't read any reviews mentioning that, so I'm going to have to dig deeper on that issue. This is my first time buying Danner boots and I would recommend them to others and would purchase again if I can resolve the squeaking.
