Perfect sandals, but a bit narrow for wide feet

My feet are a solid US 8.5 wide/EU 39, and my other Danskos are a all size 39. With these black sandals the 8.5-9 (EU 39) was too tight in the forefoot. My right foot especially looked like a little sausage stuffed in a tight casing. 😅 I returned them and ordered 9.5-10 (EU 40) and they fit way better! The width in the forefoot is perfect, but I will need to tighten the strap just a hair for a proper fit around the ankles. My guess is that for those with 'normal' width feet they are true to size.Interestingly the length (front to back) was just about identical in both pairs. That was a surprise. I haven't worn them for a full day outdoors yet but for the few hours I wore them indoors they were perfect. No pain in my arches, which is usually my problem area.

Size not compatible with my feet

The sizing doesn’t seem to fit my feet. Sum a solid size 7 so I bought size 37. It’s too big though. And I tried a size 36 in another dansko style and it was too small. Too bad since these shows are cute and seemed comfortable. The buckle is a Velcro attachment which was not evident in the photo. Just a thing to note.
