A. Pros: Well made. Leather uppers. Appearance is quality. Ordered using professional shoe sizing instrument and compared with shoe sizing technique per instructions - both very close in agreementB. Cons: Sizing apparently an issue across many/multiple brands.B.1. Different construction styles need additional dimension size related to breaking/bending point distance from heel.B.1.a. Breaking/bending distance from heel is critical to foot entry. Sliding sole of foot gently across top of shoe heel entry access into shoe.B.1.a.i. In my case, even if I tried to use a shoe horn for easy slip on, my heel was approximately 1-1.25 beyond heel entry position.C. My best suggestion is shop first at a store front for the construction style you want and try on for fit. If you can get construction style and all other aspects you want, BUY IT. If you can get the construction style but not the other aspects you want, make note of the construction style size dimensions and search other sources for your needs. Size is notoriously varied among manufacturers/brands/country of manufacturer/etc. Maybe this will minimize issues and maximize satisfaction. Good luck.
I have used this exact shoe for years. It's a very fine and comfortable shoe. It looks very nice with chinos and a dress shirt. It's relatively lightweight due to the foam-based sole. The leather is quite soft for a shoe of this type and becomes more so over time. It has kind of a greasy look to it, so the right treatment is dubbin. This shoe is quite waterproof. Can you step in pretty deep water and it will shed it completely...as long as it doesn't get up over the top. If you periodically treat it with dubbin, even the leather will not be harmed by exposure to water. Very nice shoe for wet weather. Both times I have previously bought this shoe it lasted about 2.5 to 3 years. This is not a real long time, in my opinion. At the end of that time the leather is still in perfect condition and well connected to the sole. However, the foam the sole is made out of does not last particularly well. It wears down quite quickly and pretty soon is thin. You start feeling the bumps on the ground beneath you. Finally it breaks through. I really wish they would make the sole out of a more durable material as in other ways this is an outstanding shoe. If the sole was on par with the upper, it would be very durable indeed. I guess that's why Doc Martens cost twice as much--their sole has some durability to it.Note that in running shoes I wear a 9.5. Knowing that leather can stretch over time, especially if exposed to water, I buy a full size small. At first you can hardly walk in it and it is always snug, but that was the right size. That was the first two shoes. This one is also an 8.5 but it is much, much, much larger than its predecessors. It's bordering on too large for me from day 1. I compared it to my old shoe and even the sole is noticeably longer. They have purposely changed their sizing. If you buy one today, be sure to get at least a full size smaller than you normally wear because this shoe is now very LARGE for its size.
Rugged and comfortable when working in the yard. They light weight and replaced my heavy leather work boots which makes them more functional for my retired lifestyle. The sole helps when jumping on a shovel digging in the garden. Laces up tight to stop the dirt going down inside to my socks. the arch support is minimal but I have high arches and use additional supports.
Great shoe and good price. BUT as a 12W it is too short and toes rub. Oddly the 12W pair I have enjoyed for several years have more toe room and fit really well. I will try a 13.
Comfortable shoes and leather quality looks good.
I will NOT BUY these again. The Quality has deteriorated a lot. This is the third pair of these shoes that I have purchased. I LOVED the first pair (same color, same model) and wore them for several years.Recently I had a profession change and so I needed to buy a second pair of these because I was wearing them more often. I purchased the second pair and they fit great out of the box. They were very comfortable, and I really liked them. However, they wore out much more quickly than the first pair (within a year).I conceded that maybe the quality of the manufacturing was down, or maybe I was wearing them more often, or perhaps it was just a bad batch. I had enjoyed the first pair so much, I decided that although the second pair wore out quickly, I would replace them with a new pair.As soon as I got the new pair I knew there would be trouble. They were VERY STIFF. Originally (I still have my first pair) the uppers were all leather. Now they are leather & MAN MADE uppers. Mostly man made from appearances. I decided that I would wear them anyway and see if they broke in.Three month later they are still stiff, they still hurt my feet every day I wear them, and despite that fact that I now only wear them twice a week or so, and that I spend much time sitting in the office, they are already wearing out.I would say the quality has SIGNIFICANTLY deteriorated since I bought the first pair five or six years ago (yes, the first pair lasted almost five years) and that the comfort is nowhere near what it used to be. I have not changed significantly in weight (in fact I probably weight a little less) and I am probably even more active than I was. But these shoes hurt. And I normally don't have a lot of trouble finding shoes that fit me or that I find comfortable (size 10 regular).I am very disappointed - and will now have to find another pair of shoes similar to this that I can wear on a regular basis to work. The looks are cheap, the quality is poor, the construction is no longer great, they are not comfortable, and they hurt. No reason to go through life with shoes that you have to wear regularly that hurt your feet.As a note - Amazon shipping, etc. is great as always.
