Quality is back!
My four-year-old 1461s finally gave up the ghost (a small tear where the leather meets the sole) and I wanted another pair but was reluctant to give the 'Chinese' Docs another go. What the hell, I ordered, they arrived (fast, FREE shipping to Australia!) and they're wonderful. The bump in quality was evident at first sight. No more cheap leather as is used to make cheap belts; this is good stuff (my father was a shoemaker so I know about these things). Construction is much more sturdy and the overall finish is perfect. Fit is excellent and very little, if any, break-in period will be necessary. I've been wearing them straight out of the box today and they're just so comfortable. I think these should be good for at least five or six years - maybe more!Well done, Doc Martens for getting a grip on your outsourced manufacturers and saving your hard and well-earned reputation.

Tip: you probably can buy a size bigger, but wear a really tough socks :)
My toes are hurting right now. Ha-ha, but it is common experience with the doctors. I would like probably get one size bigger, cause you can just deal with shoes as always, f.e. you can just pull your feet straight in the shoe and keep walking, back of your feet will be suffering as hell. But shoes are great, the quality of leather is awesome, and it can be felt that is not just a fake “eco” leather from the first touch. Shoes can be probably wore at temperature -15 - +20, so depends on location you can wear them for all seasons

Stick with The Classics—You Won't be Disappointed
If you're a fan of DMs or getting a pair for the first time, let me give you some advice. Go with a classic DM shoe like these. Simple, strong, versatile...Do NOT go with one of the styles that looks improved or more comfortable—the lining in those DMs will fall apart and isn't as comfortable as it seems, the lip around the edge of your foot won't prove to make the shoe fit easier or last longer. This is pure KISS: keep it simple, stupid. These DMs are extremely comfortable after the mandatory break-in period of any good, leather shoe—MORE comfortable than those with linings or lips or other nonsense that DMs never had in the beginning—and, sound advice, they will last three times longer (I've had multiple pairs of oxfords last 3+ years each, my "cushioned" pair barely lasted 10 months). I love you Doc, but your originals are still the best.

i have had a pair of Doc's in my wardrobe for the last 20 years and they have yet to disappoint.
As with all Docs, they have a break in period that is tough on your heels. Just wear double socks, and some bandaids for a couple of days, and you are good to go. I am in the food and beverage business and I am on my feet all day (sometimes more than 12 hours in a day) and I need comfortable shoes. I have had several pairs of expensive dress shoes that look great and feel "ok". I finally decided to go with these for work ( I have several pairs of Docs that I wear outside of work) and I couldn't be happier. These look great with my suits. Some people might be thrown off by the bold yellow stitching, but I love it. The black shines up just as good as any "dress" shoe and feels twice as good. Again, I am a manager for a high end resort conference center and I wear these with my suits, and I get a lot of compliments on them, usually by people that own Docs themselves. If you are on the fence about getting these shoes, go for it. You won't be disappaointed. They will last for years. By the way, make sure you get some of the Doc Martens wonder balsam to help break them in and keep them clean (another great product you really need if you own Docs).

I love Dr. Martens as a whole
I love Dr. Martens as a whole. They are a very comfy and durable shoe. These however run a little large and tend to slide around on my feet, which in an extreme case caused a large blister on one of my feet. Also the back of the shoe is made of a rather stiff leather which rubs on the back of my heel.Generally a 12 US shoe is snug on my foot and needs to be broken in to fit comfortably. In this case I would probably try to drop half a size if I were to purchase these again.

Very nice shoe, but where are the 1/2 sizes?
I have always wanted a pair of Dr. Marten Oxfords. I respect the long-lasting quality, and uitilitarian old-world craftsmanship. The truth is, they just won't make them in my size! I need a roomy 9.5US size, probably the single most commonly purchased shoe size in the country. Their "whole sizes only" offering means I cannot wear their shoes.

Squekers
If you wear this as a street shoe stop reading, however, if this shoe is your choice for the office then understand that they squeak a lot which requires much work on your part to rough up the inside leather with sand paper or as I have done a bicycle tube patch rougher in order to eliminate the embarrassing squeaky noise. Docs are the best shoes on the market for the price if you are willing to rework them. Blame Docs for selling out to China as you rework.
