too short--but next size up fits fine
I always wear 8 1/2 (39) in Ecco shoes, but these boots were a bit too short in the toes and rather claustrophobic feeling all over. I have returned them and ordered the next size up, hoping they will fit.In principle, the boot is attractive and comfortable; the arch support is sufficient and well located. I was afraid the outer soles would seem too high (and not stable), but I felt fine walking in them. There are a lot of places where snow, ice, and grit can accumulate: we'll see how that goes (!) if the size 40 fits me.Updated to change from 4 stars to 5. The size 40 arrived amazingly quickly, and it fits well! I will be keeping the boots. For reference: I have a narrow foot, with an especially narrow heel. I rarely, rarely buy a shoe or boot of any make that is not an 8 1/2 N. I was surprised to need a 9/40 in this boot, but even the heel seems to fit well in this larger size--and none of the all-over claustrophobic feeling I had in the size 39s. So I"d recommend sizing up. Not having walked outdoors in the boots yet, let alone in snow or on icy surfaces, I can't speak to the grip-factor. Will submit another review once I've had a chance to test these in wintry conditions.

Attractive and functional
I have gotten so many compliments on these shoes from complete strangers, usually the people who are on their feet all day, like movers and delivery drivers. I was attracted to them because of their utility: the traction, the light weight and the waterproofing. The cosmetics is purely a bonus. Great hikers but...
Wife has three pairs of these. She really likes them and hikes in them almost daily. You'd think they'd last rotating through three pairs of them but... three out of the six shoes now have ripped main seams. Bummer. Now we have to find another boot that she'll be comfortable in.
