Solid grippy shoe for flat pedals.
It's crucial to wear specially designed MTB shoes with soft sticky soles when using spike pedals. You can get seriously lacerated as I did when my foot slipped off a pedal while wearing ordinary trainers. Even with these Five Tens, I recommend additional shin protection. These 5.10 Freeriders are excellent, tough MTB shoes - winter weight but don't overheat on hot summer days.

nice shoes, feels warm, tough for walking though
these are nice shoes and hit the spot if you are biking in colder weather and don't want clip-ins or shoe guards or covers. they are every function-specific though and hurt your feet (soles) if you walk in them at work or for more than 10-15 minutes at a stint. this is because the soles are hard and meant for biking, not walking. size held pretty true to spec. I probably would give them a 4.5 if I could walk in them a bit more comfortably.

Cold weather version of Freerider
I own a few pairs of regular Freeriders and saw the EPS on sale for $50, which is a steal. They are just the insulated version and in the northeast riding into December a leather flat pedal shoe with insulation is clutch. Haven’t tried them yet but fit exact same as the insulation is not overbearing. But slide your fit in and it definitely feels warmer. Looking forward to giving these a run in a few months but if you can catch them on sale it’s a no brainer to scoop up an extra pair.

Hard soles
Good bike shoes. They're warm and waterproof. The soles are very hard, so these are strictly for biking. They aren't like the normal freeriders that you can also walk around in.
