Stylish, Comfortable, and Perfect for Training in Low Light

I bought the Fizik Tempo Powerstrap R5 Reflective cycling shoes as a complement to my race-day setup, and they’ve exceeded expectations in every way. While not quite as airy or race-focused as my Fizik Transiro Hydras, these shoes are incredibly well-suited for daily training—especially in cooler conditions or when riding near dusk.Reflectivity & Visibility:The standout feature here is the fully reflective upper. It looks sleek in the daylight and absolutely pops when hit by headlights or streetlamps in lower light. This has made early morning and late evening rides feel noticeably safer. It’s a feature I didn’t know I needed until I had it—and now I wouldn’t want to train without it.Fit & Comfort:The Powerstrap system does a great job of evenly distributing pressure across the foot. The fit is secure without being overly rigid, and I’ve had zero issues with rubbing or hotspots, even on multi-hour rides. They’re also easy to get on and off, making them a great everyday option.Performance & Ventilation:Compared to my Transiro Hydras, the Powerstrap R5s have a slightly more relaxed and cushioned feel. The responsiveness is still solid, but a touch less direct—which I actually appreciate for longer, more casual sessions. Ventilation is more modest here, making them ideal for mild weather but not my first choice on scorching days.Durability Note:The reflective material does tend to show dirt and scuffs more easily than standard uppers. It’s a minor cosmetic issue, but worth knowing if you're a stickler for pristine gear.Bottom Line:These are my go-to training shoes—especially for dusk rides and cooler conditions. Comfortable, sharp-looking, and confidence-boosting thanks to their reflective safety element. When the weather heats up or race day calls, I switch to the Transiros, but for everything else, the Tempo Powerstrap R5s are a fantastic choice.

Comfortable, great $/benefit ratio, and appealing design with security feature as an extra

I liked them a lot. Very comfortable. I have other shoes with entire carbon soles (Fisik Infinito R1 with Boa) and compared to these ones, I couldn't notice the difference in terms of power transmission (sure there is some, but come on, I'm not taking part of Tour de France). On the other hand, in terms of comfort, I did notice a vast improvement in a quite long ride (140km/2700m elev. gain). I also found the power strap system, easy and effective. Not major difference with Boa when tweaking adjustment on the go, and provided good adaptation to normal feet swelling in long runs. Finally, I love the reflective surface finish, I think is a very "chic" detail that adds a lot to safety and makes me feel more secure. When not reflecting, the neutral "grey" color is great to combine with all kids of cycling garments and wears.

Good shoes, replace the insoles

I have ridden around 200 miles in them now. The first outing was 30 miles and I had them too tight and got some pinching on the edges of my feet until I loosened the straps. Subsequent rides have been better, but I should have ordered the exact size of my training shoes (I went .5 down). I don't agree with the one reviewer that said these were good for wide feet - I am between normal and wide and I don't think they are the best choice for room laterally.I tend to get attacks of plantar fasciitis, so insoles are in all of my shoes mostly as preventative measures. I did not have the insoles arrive for my first 2 rides and I really felt it in these shoes. There is not enough support in the stock insoles, so plan to replace them if you want optimal foot support. I used some heated Sole ones that mould to my feet, and everything has been really smooth since.
