Nothing Compares to a Frye Boot

I purchased these boots after spending many weeks researching boots that were moderately priced, classically designed, and durable enough to last for many years. Hands down I kept returning to the Frye brand. I owned a pair back in the 70's that were resoled many times because they were so comfortable and form fitted to my feet. I only gave them up some 25 years later because my feet flattened and they became too small. Since then, I have purchased many different boots but none were as durable or comfortable as my Frye's.I ordered the antiqued black leather simply because they were about $100 less than the regular black. I simply applied some thick black leather polish and while there are still some crinkles in the shaft leather, they look every bit as good as the other. I ordered them in my regular shoe size 9 and while they are a bit roomy in the foot, a heavier pair of socks fills them in adequately. The leather is beautiful, thick, top quality and the stitching is done in a heavy thread. The sole is also made of leather so can be a bit slippery until roughed up. The lining and footbed are very soft and comfortable and the brass buttoned pull ons make it easy to pull them on. The shaft is adequate for an average woman's calf. The styling is traditional and while stylish will never go out of style. I wear them to walk the dog, shop, and evenings out. They are the perfect compliment to every outfit! There are many riding style boots on the market but I'm sure these will keep on "walking" long after other boots hit the landfill. I did waterproof them as we live in the northeast where it rains a great deal in the fall and spring and winters are wet and snowy. I had them on last night after several inches of snow and sleet fell and my feet stayed warm and dry. A must have for every quality conscious woman!

Very nice boot. Well worth the price.

Beautiful boot! Soft, comfortable, very pretty on. Sadly, I had to return because my calves are pretty small and the boot was just too big around the calf.

Inconsistent in craftsmanship

Ordered a size 8, the leather was exactly as described (picture 1), was luxurious and looked expensive, but too small. Ordered an 8.5, fit perfect but they looked like they were made of fake leather and looked cheap. So disappointed the first pair did not fit. I think they sent me the 8.5 in the smooth leather option (second picture) instead of the antiqued leather that the size 8 came in. I'll try to order the antiqued leather again and hope for the best.

Love at first sight!

After much debate and research, I finally decided to order the Frye Melissa Button boots in cognac. I was hesitant because the picture of the cognac color provided is not a true representation of what the boot actually looks like (versus the image on Frye's website or Zappos.com). Once I was finally ready to order Amazon was unfortunately out of my size so the wait continued. When they came back in sock, they were priced at retail ($368) and not $299 like all of the other colors so again, I was disappointed.I somehow stumbled upon the lower price options and found Amazon's Warehouse Deals had a pair in my size for more than half off and listed as "very good" condition! I couldn't believe it. I was skeptical but decided to go for it because they have the same return and exchange policy as Amazon and I lucked out! I seriously could not be happier. I have only had the boots for a week but I never want to take them off. They are even more beautiful in person and I believe they were listed as "very good" condition because they were missing the box and had a slight scuff on one of the boots but the bottoms did not look worn at all (as if someone had maybe tried them on and sent them back or the box got damaged). They still had the tag on them when I received them. The real test will be to see how they hold up, but I am taking extra precautions to care for them since they are real leather. Some things I wanted to add to my review that maybe others are wondering as I was - I believe they fit true to size. I wear a size 7 in Converse and Sperrys so I ordered these in size 7 and they fit perfectly! I have a very hard time finding boots that do not swallow my legs and these are about as close as I think I could get. They are definitely narrow compared to most other boots I have tried on, but I still have some wiggle room that I will live with because I love these so much.I would love to give these 5 stars, but I am going to wait and see how they hold up for awhile before updating my review. Currently, I am VERY happy with these boots and am even happier that I got such a great deal on them!

Great price!

These a great boots for a great price! They are especially great for short women. I am 5’ 2” with short-ish legs for my height. For once a pair of knee high boots actually hit a little below my knee instead of covering it. The first pair I was sent was pretty damaged from being folded up to fit in a smaller box for shipping. However, the exchange process was very easy and the next pair I received looked great. Neither pair came in a Frye box, but I do think they are the real deal because they looked exactly the same as a pair I had bought from Nordstrom Rack and returned when I found a better price on Amazon.
