I love my golden foxes so far. They are comfortable, didn’t take weeks to break in. They offer good support. They seem to be holding up well so far but it’s only been 2 weeks so I will update this accordingly. Hope to be able to buy another pair of these, I see the price of them has already gone up significantly since I purchased two weeks ago. I usually wear thorogoods and so far these are withstanding the test.
This is a good quality boot for the price.It is made in China but is very similar to the made in USA Thorogood Boot.The leather is very nice and quite thick.The boots definitely require some break in time, only because the leather is so thick. (Not a bad thing at all, really.)The boot is a bit different than the stock picture in the listing. It is a bit darker and there is no branding like what is represented in the stock photo.The boot does look exactly like the photos that are in the Product Description.There is a thin cloth like lining in the toe box area and a thin lining at the back of the heel.The insole is extremely thin with no arch support but it is removable so that you can replace it with a better quality insole or orthotic.The sole is a very light but moderately sturdy material which makes the entire boot very light.The listing advises ordering a half size down from some other name brand boots but I would recommend against that as I ordered a half size down from the Wolverines that I usually wear and I had to exchange them for the size that I normally wear.The customer is responsible for the return shipping cost even for an exchange.I would say that the boots fit true to size.I have been wearing the boots for four days now and they seem to be softening and breaking in already.I think this is a pretty good boot especially for the great price.(Update 7/26/17) I have been wearing the boots for almost 2 weeks now and as of today they seem to be completely broken in and are very comfortable now.Break in does take some time so hang in there and I think that you will be very happy with your purchase.
I've read reviews that compare these to Thoroughgood boots. Not even close. The leather is hard and very very stiff. They are so narrow I've debated soaking them with saddle soap and wearing them around to try to break them in. The laces are cheap. They do seem well made though. Time will tell. At first I thought I would have to return them because the heel was very loose and the ball of my foot on the side near my big toe was tight. After wearing them around the yard the heel settled in enough to be satisfactory. I'm an iron worker so a comfortable boot is mandatory. With a little more work and a week or so and a sore ball of my foot maybe they'll be OK. I do have a wide foot but they didn't offer this in a wide. That doesn't excuse the fat heel though. I read to order a size down. I've been wearing 11.5 and I ordered an 11. The length is good. Just narrow at the toes
Ordered wide, put my foot in and they feel a bit tight. I say this because I’m wearing the thick socks I usually wear for work. I know the material will stretch so I’m not worried too much about it. I have problem with my feet and arches, the sole that it comes with is NOICE!! I am going to switch it out because I have bad arches but I’m keeping the soles for my old boots!! Look nice, feel nice so give them a try.
I've bought hundreds of items on Amazon, and only left maybe 2 reviews before this (I know, shame on me). So, that may tell you how impressed I am. As an Ironworker, it seems like a career-long quest to find the best bang-for-buck boots and gloves. Well, as far as boots go, these are insanely good. I've worn Thorogood and Carolina moc toe boots for a couple decades now, so I know how a good boot should feel. I've tried these Golden Fox boots on the job for a week now, and they are crazy comfortable, with zero break-in, and are holding up very well. I'm about to buy a backup pair before they stop selling them or they run out of stock: they are that good. I bought the regular size I normally wear, and I installed some high arch insoles (about $30 here). These boots feel like house slippers. I can't recommend them enough.
Great boots! I’ll be buying another pair in a couple weeks! If you buy some make sure to get 8 in’ nit the 6 in’. The 8 in’ are far more comfortable and durable.
Good boot. Not water proof unless you keep them mink oiled. Good for the summer.
