Golden RetrieverExcellent delivery by UPS, coming a day earlier than expected.When I first picked up the box, I wondered if there was more in the box than the boots, as it was hefty.Taking them out of the box, I was impressed with the golden color of the boots and the substantial weight. I felt the toe and at first thought “Oh no, they have steel safety toes!”, but checking the listing and the box confirmed they had the composite toe. They are really hard, and that’s a good thing.I wanted rugged 8” boots for working as a Sawyer doing fire mitigation and working wildland fires. Because of the potential for working on fire grounds, the boots can’t have steel toes, or your feet will literally cook because of heat conduction.That’s why I wanted these boots, now let me tell you about the boots:They are stoutly made with high quality leather, thick enough to absorb the abuse they will need to take and have 4 pairs of quick lace hooks on the shaft, to insure a secure and supporting connection with your ankle and leg. I wear a size 11 and because I like thick socks for cushioning, I ordered the 11 Wide size… they are a perfect fit. Even though they feel surprisingly heavy when taking them out of the box, that doesn’t translate to my experience of them on my feet. I’m used to wearing all kinds of boots and I think I was spoiled by my daily wear, La Sportiva, synthetic hiking boots which are very light, comparatively.My initial impression when wearing these Golden Retriever boots was about the good internal support and cushioning in the boot, and the stiffness of the shaft. That stiffness worried me at first, but after wearing them around the house for a few hours, they became much more comfortable, and the cushioning is great. The attention to detail is high-level and the quality seems excellent.I am quite confident that these boots will be more than adequate for the rugged use I’ll subject them to. I have 2 days of heavy fire mitigation work next week and I will update this review with my thoughts impressions of how they performed.

Best 80 ever spent on boots
Love these boots I usually wear Carolina or red wings and hate breaking in new boots but I love these yes the leather is a little stiff but I haven't had any issues the way the inside feels is amazing like they are more comfortable then any of my shoes even hey dudes I wear these all the time now not just at work I really think I might buy a pair just to wear out thats how great they feel amazing boots definitely worth it I also ordered half size bigger I wear a 10 got a 10.5 wide and fits like a glove

Painful boots
I usually wear Carolina’s or Chippewa’s, but decided to give them a try based off other reviews saying they were good. I wore them for two weeks. Waste of money. I’ve always worn a 10. They only had a 10 wide (which I ordered) and the steel toe was still too narrow and pinched my toes. The sole is kind of weird and puts your weight on the outside / front of your foot. I never have issues breaking in boots, but eventually started getting pain in my legs from the way my feet sat in the boots.

Real boots
Guys, these are real boots. Quality materials with sewn on one piece replaceable Goodyear welts. Comp toe does not feel tight or uncomfortable, I don't even notice they are there. Not having worn Comp toe before, only steel toes' that hurt my feet in the past, I was pleasantly surprised at how nice these boots fit, with virtually no break-in required. They will certainly become more perfectly molded to your feet over time but ready to wear out of the box. They remind me of high end quality Alpine hiking boots like Raichle or Danner for climbing mountains of granite hard rocks. Finished smooth but tough. Crazy Horse leather let's you know Golden Retriever cut no corners in choice of materials. I have no doubt this brand of boots will last for a very long time.

My husband loves them but they took a while to break in and needed some stretching
I ordered these boots for my husband. Part of the reason that we ordered them was because they were listed as "wide" width. He really likes them, and they are good quality boots, but the toe cap was too narrow, so that he couldn't wear them long without pain. We purchased shoe stretchers, and he used them every night for several weeks before he could wear these comfortably for any length of time. What finally worked was the little bunion domes on the shoe stretcher. He also mentioned that the heal is a bit higher than what he is accustomed to wearing. But he adjusted to that quickly.
