I need to get used to the thick leather between the two front toes as it takes some getting used to. Otherwise I love the quality, fit and looks of the sandal.
Too hard on the toes.
These sandals are made of high quality materials. The craftsmanship is superb. The color is gorgeous and polished. They're classy in appearance, but still casual wear. I ordered a size 40 in these. I wear a size us 8 1/2 or 9. They just fit so, you might want to order up the next size if you run a large 9 to 9 1/2.
These leather flip flops look really great. The leather is quite sturdy and substantial, however the thong between the toe is thicker than I would have expected and it rubs. I'm going to apply leather softener to see if I can make them more comfortable, and also maybe try to twist and bend the thong area to see if I can get it soften up a bit. Looks-wise, these are beautifully made and the sole is stiff enough that it does offer a bit of support. I wish the color was more of a natural-tan, rather than a brown with a rusty cast, but I like them anyway.
I like the leather, and that was the major factor in trying to pick out a new pair of flip-flops, but these are very much a 'minimalist' product. There are a few things that they could do much better to improve the overall design and is the reason I'm only giving it 3/5 stars.First: There is almost zero cushion, I had to pinch it with two fingers to feel any deflection in the sole material. While this will no-doubt prevent me from ever having to worry about the stray rock/lego, it has already started to take it's toll on my feet. Perhaps my feet will adjust, but I do notice now when I put any other shoe on the first thing that comes to mind is "wow, I didn't know how comfy these other shoes were"...Second: If they are going for the old-school "this is a tough shoe" they should have notched the bottom of the sole where it's sewn to the top. As is, just walking around my house I'm already seeing wear and tear on the thread, i.e. the thread is wearing directly which means it's going to fail first. If they had notched or recessed where the thread comes through it would prevent direct wear on the thread.Third: If your going to use a synthetic material for the sole, you can spice it up a bit, use a multilayered approach; very tough but thin bottom, squishy yet supportive foam middle, leather on top. Boom! Modern shoe hidden in Old-school look!Last comment: Take them into the shower with you when you first get them. Let them drink up a bit of water then wear them around till they dry out. The webbing between your big toe and the rest will thank me. Sure some sort of leather conditioner would probably also work, but these are flip-flops and at some point they are bound to get wet so might as well get it out of the way up front.
