My favorite tough-duty running shoe
Zero heel drop, wide fit allowing foot splay, good lacing, secure fit, excellent traction, good ground protection, phenomenal outer sole durability, what's not to like? These are nothing like the super-fat soles that are all the rage at the moment, but they are thicker than a true barefoot-style shoe. I tend to use the barefoot-style for training, enjoying the ground feedback for building proprioception and foot muscles. But in a race or a particularly demanding mountain run, I prefer the Trailfly for being a little thicker and stiffer for protection. I had the preceding model, the TerraUltra, and found that after a few hundred kilometers, the sole softened and became more flexible. So as long as the uppers hold up (the soles are bomber and don't wear out), they became even more of a very comfy barefoot style shoe towards the end of their life, taking a new role in my running shoe cycle.
