Got these for my adult son, very lightweight and comfortable. Great price and he really likes them and he’s not easy to please!
I hate it when a great product is completely changed. I have an old pair of Inov8 barefoot shoes that are amazing and, though stained and dirty, still in good shape. This is a totally different fit, sole, and quality. Returned. I wanted to go with 1 star, but I didn't feel that was fair since the problem is that they changed everything rather than with this particular show, which a lot of people may like.
Came to this shoe from more minimalist footwear, looking for something with a low drop that would give my calves a break for higher volumes and longer runs. I'm 120 miles in. Most of my runs are on flat hardpacked dirt / gravel service roads and trails mixed with sugar sand and tall grassy trails.I ended up a 10-wide and had to size up a half size from the foot measurement guide on the Inov-8 website which gave me a 9.5. After that. the fit is great. Snug in heel and midfoot and roomy at the ball of foot to allow for some toe splay without feeling loose or floppy at the front. I've never had a hot spot or rubbing anywhere. I don't have a particularly wide foot, so if you want toe room don't be afraid to go with the wide fit. More shoes should be shaped like this. There is really not much ground feel at all if you are used to minimal footwear. The ride is firmer than most fully cushioned shoes but there is definitely some cushion and bounce to the midsole. You can feel the energy return on hard surfaces and pavement but on mildly softer dirt and gravel I am found wanting something a little firmer as the rebound feels a little mis-timed with the push off from the ground. This has been moderating a bit as the foam compresses and I'm liking the ride a bit more. However, it has done exactly what I bought it for and I've been able to increase my training volume.Grip has been excellent and no complaints there. Durability appears to be great. Very little wear showing so far.For me there is one real shortcoming of this shoe. It does not shed water well. There is a nearly seamless TPU layer around the perimeter of the upper with no points for water drainage and they will feel heavy for several minutes after crossing water. So I might look elsewhere if you need something to perform in wet conditions. Otherwise, when it's dry, these things feel light and fast.
I have narrow feet and have a hard time finding wide toe box shoes that still hug the rest of me foot and these did it! They’re lightweight, comfy and have good treads for trail running.
Not for me
I had a wonderful time trying out the Inov8 TrailFly Speed on the snowy trails around Whitefish, MT. It surprised me with its incredible grip and stability, as well as its ample toe room and comfort. The shoe struggles when the terrain gets too 3-dimensional and the thin midsole and insole limit the length of run they excel on. This shoe is made for the runner seeking more toe and forefoot room in a shoe that feels fast and peppy on shorter trail runs and races.
