Wife has had both bunions corrected and two foot injuries related to that area. Doctor recommended shoes with a lot of rocker to help prevent arthritis in her big toe and joint. She doesn’t have wide feet, but ordered the men’s equivalent size because men’s shoes come a little wider than women’s and she needs some extra space for her orthotics. She wears a women’s 9 in New Balance and 8.5 in Hoka, and she ordered a men’s 8 in this shoe. She has a thumb’s width at the toe as you should with athletic shoes, and the room in the forefoot is perfect. The rocker took about 2 days to adjust to since it feels like you’re standing on the back half of your foot (toes are obviously elevated off the ground). When walking, says she can feel the rocker area mid-foot more than a typical running shoe, but she adjusted to this and was able to walk 1.5 miles - longest walk since recovering from a foot injury last fall. Seems promising for people who need to reduce the flexion of the great toe. It does take a few days to get used to the different feel of this sole. Don’t give up on it too soon.
After Achilles surgery, I bought these from the manufacturer after seeing that Aaron Rodgers had recommended them as his Achilles recovery shoe. The extreme rocker sole simply didn't work for me, and my Physical Therapist was happy when I abandoned them. With even the slightest Achilles lift in the heel, I felt constantly out of balance and could never achieve a normal gait. Whatever the rocker sole is supposed to accomplish, it did nothing beneficial for me.They do seem to be well-made, high-quality shoes. I will give them another try when I am 6 months out of recovery and am confident that I'm back to walking with a completely normal gait. I remain skeptical, however, that I will ever become comfortable with the rocker sole because even my non-injured foot was having a heck of a time adjusting to them.Definitely try before you buy if you can. For me, the sizing (size 11) was spot-on.UPDATE: I must say, trying to be as fair as I can, that these are just about the worst shoes that I, a longtime runner and walker, have ever bought. They have literally NO lateral stability. My feet supinate (bend outward) to an absolutely goofy degree. Even my wife noticed and asked why I was walking so strangely. I assured her that I was doing my best NOT to walk strangely.
