best work boot ever
My husband originally purchased these boots two years ago for work at a sporting goods retailer where he paid $200. We thought they were a little pricey but because he has diabetic feet we thought he should give them a try. Low and behold, they are the best boot he has ever worn for work!We were thrilled to find them on Amazon, and even more pleased with the price. The boots fit as you would expect. They have a vey good insert and are comfortable for walking or standing long periods of time. They are steel toe, waterproof and are very light weight...not heavy like other steel toed boots he tried in the past. They are constructed vey well and even after being submerged in water for long periods of time there has been no breakdown in the stitching, sole, laces, leather or fabric. My husband now owns 2 pairs of Detroits and a pair of Pittsburghs. He prefers the Detroits as they are lower and and lighter in weight. He wears the Pittsburghs in snow. Because they're so well made it's hard to say how they could be improved.

Way better then old style leather work boots!
So far I love this boot. Still wearing my 10 month old pair, Just ordered a second pair. I'm a heavy boot user male 200lbs and live near Red Wing MN so have tried Redwing, Irishhsetters and other big leather brands. Some people can get these old style leather boots to last years, not me I would go through 1-2 pairs a year. This was my first Keen boot. Sorry to say hometown boot maker these are No comparison. The Keen was way more comfortable from day one and stayed that way. Lighter on the feet. NO sore feet at end of day, more water proof (except in deep snow), warm in the winter even down to 0F or colder if moving and walking. But not to hot in the summer and I'm a foot sweeter. I do spray the inside every evening with Lysol and they still do not smell and still have the Keen insoles, My other boots I would have been through 2 or 3 insoles by now trying to control odor. The toes would have been wore out and I would still getting sore from the leather over my inseam and wearing through by now.. I wear them for remodeling work (Old farm house, framing, concrete, roofing, etc) daily walks in the woods and snow (up to 4"), trips to boundary waters canoeing, yard work, wheeling in my jeep, etc. And now have even taken to wearing them out for the evening as a winter boot or to church since I like them so much and don't look to much out of place. I usually wear out my toes completely through by now, not these boots, love the toes. And no wear or tear out on the sides or inseams like my other boots. I usually save my old boots to wear for really dirty work like concrete pours, shoveling mud etc but not this time I tossed all my old boots in the trash, not worth going back. The only issues so far with my Keens are I cut the side of the sole with a saw saw blade doing a roof demolition (not the boots fault), the shoe laces wore out, a little of sole edge loosening 1/4" on back from pulling them off with my other boot toe, some leather fading ( I never treated them once unlike my other boots it was monthly or more, so I suppose one treatment would bring the leather back). and last one eyelet tore through. Overall Good job Keen! Redwing please take notice. If your a dedicated leather boot wearer then you need to try these, I'm sold.

Not (heavy rain) waterproof
I've had these pair of boots for a while now and I wanted to wait a couple of months or so to give a review to test the "Waterproof" in them.I work in the airline industry so I have to be outside a great majority of the time working, which means that in bad weather too. Before I say anything about the waterproof side, I just want to say they are a great pair of work boots overall, no doubt about it, comfortable and well designed! I was able to purchase them at a great deal and they've held on pretty good without counting the supposed waterproof in it. I live in the Northeastern part of the country and as some might know it rains like hell as well as some constant light showers. For light to medium showers, these boots hold good and you shouldn't expect wet feet. But for crazy heavy rain + wind, these aren't the best option. I guess that for those situations a pair of rubber boots would do better but I really thought that the waterproof would hold on and not get my feet soaked. So if you want a great pair of boots with somekind of waterproof, these are good. But don't expect these boots to repel heavy rain from your feet.

Great toe protection in a comfortable boot.
This is my second pair of the KEEN Utility Detroit Mid Steel Toe Work Boot. The first pair lasted 6 years of heavy use, and I still use them when I know I am going to be doing something where they will get extremely dirty.I love these boots as they are both comfortable and well made.. I spend a lot of time at some rural property, and these boots go from everyday boots, to work boots and are comfortable enough to use as hiking boots. I do quite a bit of construction work, and I like knowing that my toes are protected from heavy objects that could potentially drop on them. The soles have good traction without being aggressively deep. Except for KEEN's signature black rubber toe cap, I think these boots look great as well.My only gripe would be that this pair came with excessively long laces. Even after double knotting them, they are still too long for my liking. I will probably end up cutting them shorter, and use heat shrink tubing on the ends to keep them from fraying. All in all a great everyday boot, and I plan to buy a third pair when the second pair wears out.
