I have never owned a pair of Keen shoes before. But after purchasing this pair of KEEN Women's Greta Classic Waterproof Snow Boots, I am a fan. The boot is better looking in person than in the pictures. It is a simple, classic brown leather with very pretty mauve upper and laces. The mauve upper is not leather, it is more of a sleeping bag material, making it very comfortable above the ankle. The only fault I see in the leather is it will probably scuff easily, but that just gives them character. The laces are round and very sturdy, not a cheap lace at all, and the gussets the laces go thru are substantial. The tread is very rugged but still feminine looking. They are very light, and look good with jeans. They were extremely comfortable as soon as I tried them on! Every boot will need a break in period, but I doubt these will take much. The toe box is plenty roomy, but not sloppy. I can wear a normal weight sock with these boots. I doubt I could wear a heavier sock with them. The 200 gram insulation is very comfortable. I wear a size 7 in most every type of shoe. I ordered a 7 in these, and they fit as expected. Highly recommend these boots!
My son managed the shoe department in a store of a major outdoor gear chain. He recommended Keens to me years ago. They had a good reputation for producing a quality product. The many pairs of Keen boots I've had over the years have always lived up to that reputation. One of their selling points for me is that they are often on the narrow side which is great for my skinny feet. I'm very hard on my shoes as I walk and hike regardless of the weather, prefer it when it's cold and snowy. I just replaced the worn out pair with the red plaid Keens. Had them for over 5 years and wore those poor things into the ground. They should have been tossed a while ago. New ones are great. Just the right width. Need no breaking in. My feet never got cold in the old ones, even when the temp was +- 0 degrees F, so I have the same hope for these. I also got a pair of the Greta tall boots with the zipper, which are similar to the worn out ones, and figured I'd choose between the two. The Greta tall are a bit wider but not by much. The price was so good on the 2 pairs I'll probably keep both. Definitely budget friendly! One pair at the local store was almost as much as the 2 pairs of these together. If you have a hard time getting boots that are narrow enough and comfortable enough, I recommend giving the Keens a chance.
This is the second pair I got from KEEN and again, couldn't be more pleased. There was a cold front with snow here, so I was able to test this boots for two days by hiking up and down some hills. Like the other pair (Targhee Vent) they fit out of the box, no breaking in. This time I chose a half size larger, my actual size 8 felt too snug. The spacious wide toe box is probably one of Keen's best features, your toes are comfortable but still held in place. Great traction, felt secure on every terrain. They're fairly light, given these snow boots keep you warm up to -25F! Loved hiking in them. Absolutely fantastic!!!I think Keen has a fan for life.
The look, style, comfort, fit, traction, and slip-on ease are all beyond compare. I can't even tell you how many great pairs of boots I own - for all seasons - and these have become a fast favorite. They slip on and lace up so easily and feel like a dream all day, regardless of activity/what I put them through. My only complaint (and it's kind of a big one, considering what I bought them for and where I live) is that they do not keep my feet warm in below-freezing temps. They are rated for temps well below 0, yet when I wore them for an hour outdoors at about 30-35F, my feet were freezing. I was mostly standing on cold ground and not being active for that hour, which is a factor, but when rated as they are, my feet should not have been cold to the point of discomfort. (I've lived in an area with harsh winters all my life and am not someone who is quick to complain about the cold.) I was with 2 people wearing lined-wellies and they did not have cold feet. I have many pairs of boots with the same cold-rating that these have, and I can say - without a doubt - that I wouldn't have had the same issue with any of my other low-temp rated boots. A disappointment, for sure, but they'll continue to be great for fall, spring, and mild-winter days. They are beautiful boots. A new favorite,, but with unexpected limitations. If you're looking for something to really keep your feet warm in low temps, look elsewhere.
My girlfriend loves these boots.cant beat keen.
I read the reviews and still bought the boots. I did read that they are made for skinny ankles. I have skinny ankles, these are TIGHT. They were so tight, I thought they sent the wrong size.I returned them the day I got them.
