Great grippy lugged soles!

I needed a sturdy, supportive walking shoe for the uneven cobbles in Portugal, and these grippy-soled low hiking shoes were exactly what I needed!I usually wear Hoka sneakers, but I needed something waterproof & warmer for traveling in the fall in a rainy season. Perfect and comfortable, & they kept me from sliding down those wet cobblestone streets!

Great Hiking Shoes For Serious Hikers

This is my second pair of Keen Targhee III hiking shoes. I wore the first pair out and love them so much that I wouldn’t even think of getting a different hiking shoe. I even have the boot version for winter.I walk my dogs every day and hike on various surfaces like dirt, gravel, mud, roots, logs, up hills, moss, grass, rocks, paved surfaces and find that the tread on the Targhee III gives me excellent traction so that I don’t slip. As anyone who has walked over a moss covered rock can attest to, it can be quite dangerous with the wrong shoe. The toe guard is also a necessity so that you don’t whack your big toe on rocks or tree roots that you may not see whilst strolling along. I also like the thick padding around the ankle to reduce the amount of pebbles that get in my shoe. While it doesn’t eliminate them all, it greatly reduces the amount so I don’t have to stop and take my shoe off to remove them. They are made of thick leather that is waterproof so that your feet won’t get wet on dewy mornings or while traipsing through large puddles. And yes you can go through some pretty deep puddles without your feet getting wet. They are durable, my first pair lasted four years and have hundreds of miles on them, and while the tread is still good, the sole has separated from the leather so my foot gets wet.Additionally, I wear a size 6.5 and the 6.5 fits me perfectly. Though I did have to size up to a 7 for the boot version because the thick padding in the ankle pushed my foot forward. And a final observation, these shoes are so awesome, that I have actually seen other hikers on the trails with the exact same shoe!

Comfortable and solid

I love my Keens - every pair I've purchased have been solid. They are one of the few brands that matches size perfectly - I wear a 6 in flip flops, but some flats are made tight, so I go up to 6 1/2. Tennis shoes can usually be a 6. Most work boots/hiking boots, I end up as a 6 1/2, so I went against my better judgement and got the 6 1/2 with these, despite knowing I'm usually a 6 in Keen! So, they're way too big and I was dumb and wore them to see if they'd get better, instead of just exchanging them. They will get me in trouble one of these days with how much they slip off my heel. So anyway, the advice here is to make sure you get the right size - if you do, these shoes will hold up and keep your feet secure, warm, and comfortable while hiking. Good traction. The laces constantly come untied though - so watch out for that.

Real comfortable

Great walking shoe. I like that it’s wide at the toes. So comfortable I forget I’m wearing hiking shoes.

Not as good as previous Targhee versions

As other reviewers have noted, the ankles are narrower compared to previous Keens. I recently purchased 2 pair of Targhee 3's and 1 pair of the Targhee's, and all 3 pair had the same ankle issue (stiff and dig into the skin). It's a bummer because otherwise they're the same great Keens I normally swear by (wide toe box, comfortable insole support and nice looking).

Great shoes

I use them almost daily for walking and hiking. They are very durable, they fit well - no blisters, and are a good value for the money. I did wear them on a trail that was very dusty, I sprayed the outside of them with a hose and the water did not seep in.
