Best I have ever owned, no exaggeration. Worth it!
Hands down the best hiking shoes I have ever owned, and I have tried A LOT. Not an exaggeration. I intentionally waited over a year to write a review of these because I wanted to see how durable these are. So many shoes seem promising but fail to deliver. Verdict: Wow! I have worn these 2-3 days a week for 15 months, around town and hiking dirt/gravel/rock trails most weekends, and they look and feel like they did when they were brand new. The soles have worn a little, which is to be expected, but nothing compared to other brands I have owned which I have worn less frequently and struggle to get a year of use. Perfect fit, just enough room in the toe, outstanding support, outstanding traction, and outstanding durability. Also of primary importance since these are GTX - still as waterproof as the day I received them. Seriously, there are not enough superlatives to describe how pleased I am with these shoes. My only complaints: (1) the laces wore out after a year, and I could not find the identical laces they came with for replacement [seriously, it should not be that hard, but this is a struggle with every manufacturer I have tried], and (2) I wish they came in more colors/color combinations. I love them so much that I would buy them in multiple colors if they were available. Also, side note, the 1-year newer version -- same shoe and colors, but slightly different use of color -- is hideous in my opinion. More colors please!

Best Low Top Hiking Boot Ever Made!
I live in one of the most remote areas in the lower 48 and spend all my time in the mountains. These are rugged and warm like a boot, but have a low top, and are comfortable like a shoe. I have bad knees so prefer to wear a low tops so my ankle can twist and bend, preventing my knee from doing so. But, it is almost impossible to find a heavy-duty low top that can handle the terrain of the Rocky Mountains for long backpacking trips and big game hunts. Then I found La Sportiva Spire GTX's. I have worn these for years now. I have the pair I'm currently using and at least one or two new pairs tucked away in the closet; I don't ever want to be without these shoe-boots ever again. In my opinion they are the absolute best. The sole is stiff, they are warm, but still have excellent breathability, they are 100% waterproof as long as you prevent moisture from coming in the top. They are truly the best of all worlds! My one complaint is the price tag. I pay it because they are worth it and still more affordable than a real pair of boots. I highly recommend these hiking shoes. I absolutely love them. For reference: If you've never worn La Sportiva they fit very similar to Nike's. I wear an 11.5 in both brands.

Good trail hiking shoes but they run a bit small
These are solid shoes with good traction. They need virtually no break-in. I had to get 1/2 larger than the largest shoe I have ever purchased before. They are marketed as trail running shoes, and for rough terrain, that may be good choice. I prefer them as solid, low-top hiking shoes. My first hike using these shoes was in Zion for 26,000 steps walking about 13 miles. I wore them with a pair of Darn-good socks and my feet were happy afterwards, no blisters, hot-spots, or sore feet. The sole is solid and one does not feel any projections from the terrain.

Great urban hikers, but a couple improvements would be nice.
These are great shoes for travel, when you may spend one day on the city streets and the next hiking a trail somewhere in the rain and mud.Pros: Very comfortable, excellent waterproof...ness/icity, stylish enough to wear just about anywhere (subjective).Cons: Expensive!!!, could use a better insole for higher arched peoples, round laces...must double knot.I like these a lot for hiking camping and travel. If they last the expense is worth it. I added insoles and elastic laces. I highly advise try before you buy.

Everything Needed in a Hiking Shoe
This hiking shoe has it all. It is very sturdy and supportive, comfortable, durable, protective, and stylish with Goretex waterproofing and great Vibran traction. Online pictures make this look like a trail runner, but make no mistake, this is a durable hiker with a protective (more rigid) sole, toebox and heel. It is very comfortable for a hiker. My feet are somewhere between regular and wide and found the Spire GTX to fit great with no break-in. I chose these over similarly priced Asolo based on the more forward momentum design. I'm not sure if it's the offset or curved toe or heel design, but this hiker really pushes my feet forward in an appropriate and natural way. I'm very happy with my pair of Spire GTX and highly recommend them.

Sprained My Ankle Twice, Topsy-Turvy Shoe
Unfortunately I cannot recommend these shoes for multiple reasons, the most serious one being that I sprained my ankle twice while wearing them! The center of balance on the shoe is very high, and this caused my ankle to twist very easily. I was walking on a straight path and one stray stone in the dirt was enough to painfully twist my ankle and give me an injury that lasted for a few months. If you ever have any ankle spraining concerns at all, AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Furthermore, the value for these is very poor. They are extremely expensive, and not worth it compared to other shoes. They are very stiff, unbending material, not breathable at all, and while comfortable you will be in fear of spraining your ankle all the time. Don't even think about wearing them in warm or hot weather, your feet will be inside a sweaty swamp. You can easily get a better hiking shoe for half the cost.
