A fantastic shoe

I love these shoes about as much as any shoe I have ever purchased and I buy a lot of shoes. These feel fantastic, look great and do not slip one bit. They have a little soft rim just inside the heel part that feels great and keeps the shoe from slipping one bit. Love that feature. I am new to this brand and I am a big fan of Altra now. They are inexpensive and are light as a feather. I love them and have since purchased 5 pairs of Altra shoes. The wife now has 4 pairs. Great shoe. Great brand of shoe.

So much better than anticipated.

I have been a fan of Altra for 8 years and completed my first marathon in Escalantes. I have been training in the Asic Novablast 4 for the last year and was pleasantly surprised with the cushion and comfort and was considering a permenanr switch. Enter the FWD experience and I couldn't imagine a shoe better for myself. I am ~50 miles in and have loved ever mile. The toe box feels just as roomy as ever, the grip is extraordinary superior to my Asics, the the springy yet soft foam underfoot has been excellent. I couldn't recommend these more and I am excited to see this line from Altra evolve.

Wow..so close

I've tried other running shoes but keep returning to Altra's. Only issue I have with them is durability/longevity. I'm 230lbs & run 2-3x a week. If you are lucky and don't mess up the Altra uppers (they are delicate)...the cushioning starts bottoming out in about 2-3 months. After wasting money on a pair of Brooks Levitates (straight up painful), I found out about the AltraFwds....wow...literally shaved a minute off my mile. Felt like I was gliding on my sprint work. Knee that has been bothering me for a week, felt fine after my first run in these. Great shoes! But as I took the AltraFwds off and they landed by a pair of my crushed out Torins, I knew the feeling would be different in 2-3 months. Only real issue otherwise is the FWDs feel a little smaller than the rest of my Altras...both in width & size. Not much and will probably be fine after they break in but noticeable. Be prepared to go up a 1/2 size.

Almost great

I’m a big fan of anatomical foot shaped shoes and find I need them to accommodate my wider toe splay and forefoot. When I go to wides my feet slide everywhere so really I just need a medium width shoe with adequate space the toe box.I’ve not really had luck with Altra’s in the past as they seem very in love with their zero drop idea which is fun but not proven to be beneficial in any way.I do love the anatomical shape and wished they offered more configurations with some slight heel toe offset that most of us runners prefer. When I saw the FWD I decided to try it out. I really enjoy the fit, feel, and appearance of the shoe. (Topos all look atrocious but I like them). However, what they missed was the midsole. The midsole is flimsy and puts a lot of stress on your plantar fascia and arch. If you’re not sensitive to this you may love it. I find I need a stiffer midsole. Most of these new super trainers out now have thick soles that naturally add to the midsole stiffness and provide a nice springy responsive feel. These feel neither soft nor responsive. Altra, please put a plate in these or stiffen them up!Again, Topos are great, but their product range is limited and tech somewhat behind. If only Brooks, ASICS, saucony would buy into the anatomical shaped foot market…

Pleasantly surprised

For reasons I cannot fully explain these shoes work for both my foot with a fused big toe and my foot that's healthy. Wide toe box and rocker motion combo is hard to find. I like that they are not high of the ground like a lot of rocker bottom sneakers. I'm always afraid I'll turn my ankles in those.
