Update after 18 months

After 18 months, I remain very pleased with these shoes. I use them every day. I have probably walked about 1000 miles in them, about half on unsaved trails and half on pavement. They are comfortable, still look good, and the heels and soles show almost no wear. They are still waterproof. We’ve had rain for the last three days. I wore these shoes every day. The outsides looked soaked. But my feet were absolutely dry. The only problem I’ve had was that the arch support in the insole irritated my arches. So I replaced them and have been fine ever since. These are great shoes. I’ll buy them again if these ever wear out.2/28/2022. My main concern when I bought these shoes was finding a pair that fits well. My feet are hard to fit. I have a bunion on my left great toe but not on my right. So I need a wider shoe on the left. And I wanted a waterproof shoe. I tried a pair of Merrills, but they were too narrow on my left foot. Next I tried a pair of Altra Lone Peaks. I wear size 10.5 in dress shoes and I tried an 11 in the Altras. The shoes were wide enough but my toes hit the front of the shoe—too short. So I tried an 11.5, but they were huge. Then I tried these Oboz Sawtooth II B-Dri in size 11. Perfect. Comfortably wide for my left foot, the one with the bunion. But also perfect width for the right foot. I was also surprised at how comfortable the shoes are to walk in right out of the box. Some of the reviews talk about needing a break-in period. I did not find that. These are as comfortable as running shoes or Allbirds. So far, I’ve only used these on paved surfaces and some icy roads. Traction seems good. I can’t comment yet on rough surfaces. But you can tell these are built like hiking boots. I’m sure they will be excellent on rocks and rough terrain.I am very pleased.

Favorite hiker of all time

Great fit out of the box. Used after short break in period for about 100 miles of varied hikes from Glacier to southern Utah during multi-week hiking vacation in Sept/Oct. All weather, other than accumulating snow. Favorite hiking shoe of all time for me. Comfort is great, holds foot well with no bite and no jammed toes on long steep descents, traction never failed, and found flex to be comfortable and rigid when needed for toe holds. Hiking all day in rain my feet stayed dry.

Love these boots!

I was hiking in Merrill boots that were at least 10 years old and seem to have no traction. While everyone I hiked with was easily walking through the ice, loose rocks, and on the slickrock (I live in the mountains), I had to pick my way through or I would slip. I've completed three hikes so far in these boots and it's like night and day. No slipping on every little thing and great traction on the slickrock. I am a woman, but I have a large wide foot so I bought a men's wide boot. They fit perfectly and didn't need any breaking it. They are very comfortable and I've also worn them around town on errands. I'm older and not as sure-footed as I once was. So far these boots have increased my confidence on the rough terrain and it's so nice to not constantly feel like I'm going to slip and fall.

Fit my feet and great quality.

Bought the oboz bridger low b dry. I think the reviews were correct: medium width (D) is narrow. More like a B width. I have a narrow foot and couldn't make it work. I tried the Keen targhee 3, both 11.5 and 12. Neither fit my foot. This Sawtooth 2 in size 12 fits my foot. Good room in the toe box. Room for some expansion as your feet swell a bit during a hike. No slipping in the heal. I use an orthotic for arch support and that fits size 12 (without orthidic I would wear 11.5). Glad I found these shoes. They are comfortable and the foot bed is more ridged than the vasque walking shoes I was using, so when I step on a stone, its not uncomfortable. Materials and construction are above average (as were the Keen shoes). I'd buy these again.

Great foot support, sizing is tricky

I switched over from Merrell because I needed more support on the sole. These shoes are rugged and offer all the support I need. The standard size is too narrow for me, which is odd because I don't require wide sizes in many other shoes. The Wide version in this Oboz is hard to find but I was able to locate a pair on Amazon. With a slim sock I have a little side movement but with a thicker sock it fits fine. The regular width was just too tight in the toe box and I had to return it. Note: This is not a light boot like Merrell but the support is far better. Break in hike was 6 miles on varied terrain and surfaces: sandy, loose gravelly rock, loose softball size rock, slick rock surfaces. Steep uphill and downhill. So far so good!
