The comfort and performance you're looking for at a fair price point.
These boots are comfortable right out of the box. Soles have aggressive and grippy tread for trails. I believe the models designated 'GTX' are best for waterproofing, because GTX stands for Gore-Tex. Every Gore-Tex product (rainsuits, jackets, gloves, boots) I've used has been watertight. The less-costly Merrell Moab 3 uses some other type of "water proof" membrane, and I've read reviews complaining of leakage with those. Save yourself some aggravation, pay the extra $20, and be assured of having dry feet in all conditions; just be sure 'GTX' is part of the model name. Just overall a well-made boot.
