Love these boots!

The bar just got raised. Almost perfect fit in my size, 11.5 wide. Very comfortable right out of the box. Surprisingly light weight. Breaking in nicely. Ugly, as are all modern hikers - styling my almost 60-year-old mind sees no need for - but tolerable in all leather. They seem to be quite functional and durable, so far. I’m actually excited about putting them through their paces, which is something I was not expecting, and haven’t experienced in a lot of years. I’m extremely glad I bought these so far. I think I got a pair of boots that will bring me joy for a good deal of time, which is wonderful since I’ve gotten used to simply having a pair of boots. Well worth the money if they hold up to my expectations.

Merrell Moab 3 Prime Mid

I have been wearing Merrell Moab shoes for many years now. I have a problem with my feet in that I have a very wide foot and a very high arch. I need special arches to put in my shoes. This shoe is built with excellence in mind. The cut of the shoe is higher than most sport shoes. It also comes in wide width. I can put in my specially made arches and with my foot inside because the shoe is cut high there is no tight pressure placed on the front part of my foot where the laces are. Because of the wide width even with my arches inside it is not tight in the width. For me that means a lot. The quality of the shoe cannot be beat. The shoe is very comfortable to wear. I purchase this same shoe every two years. It is so comfortable it is like walking on air. If Merrell is listening, I would like to thank them for finally making this particular shoe in black in wide width. In conclusion I would recommend this shoe to anyone who wants a well-built shoe made with excellent quality and is also a very comfortable shoe.

Comfortably wide, roomy yet snug feel

I had a doubt about the width of size 8.5. But the normal size (medium) actually is a bit wide. The fit is snug and very comfortable.

A true love/hate relationship with these boots

I've worn Timberland boots for many years, and I went looking for something that might have better grip in bad traction situations, and longer tread life. I hike frequently, and I eat boots. I regularly encounter wet rocks, and wet metal steps, and while I'm barely still young enough to survive a fall without shattering my hip, not slipping and falling has become increasingly important to me.In the plus column, I put these Merrell Moab 3 Prime Mid Waterproof hiking boots on new out of the box, and went hiking immediately. I had to loosen the laces, and break them in a little, but it wasn't bad. After a couple of days, I could just tie them normally and go. They were immediately comfortable enough, and quickly became truly comfortable. They performed well on wet rocks, on wet metal. Even more impressive, I took my two Great Danes to several stores with polished concrete floors on a rainy day, and with both of my girls tugging on me, the Merrells maintained their grip. Very impressive! They have also performed adequately with respect to water permeability. These aren't waders, but if the water isn't too deep, your socks won't get soaked. In the minus column, the square heel. I surveyed Merrell's entire line of boots, and the square heel just seems to be a Merrell thing. That's really unfortunate. When I was a kid growing up, my dad showed me his Vietnam era combat boots, and how they had square heels. Square heels caused soldiers to trip over everything in the jungle, so the US Army redesigned future combat boots to have a slanted heel. Timberland boots all have a slanted heel. Most Ariat boots have a slanted heel. But Merrell seems to be stuck in 1965 on heel design. While walking familiar sections of the Appalachian Trail, I found myself tripping over every rock, every tree root, and every fallen branch, because of the stupid square heels. Now that I have seen how square heels are a Merrell signature thing, I no longer think I have any hope of convincing the designers to fix this flaw. I guess I'm going to take an angle grinder to my boots, and try to fix it myself. Apart from the square heel, they really are excellent boots.Four stars. Would have been five if they hadn't been of a 1965 design. It is what it is. In spite of the heels, I will probably buy these again. Standing up to the pulling power of two Great Danes with wet boots on a polished concrete floor really impressed me. These things have pretty good grip! It's unfortunate that they also have more than their fair share of trip.

durable/long lasting

I bought these boots on November/21/2023 so just under a year. I am a gas leak surveyor and I have put well over 200 miles on these boots considering I walk an average of 4 to 11 miles a day on all kinds of terrain. From walking the natural gas transmission lines in the out in the Kentucky bush crossing creeks and rough vegetation to suburban neighborhoods and they have held up better then most other boots that normally last me 6 months. being all leather construction with NO "breathable water proof mesh" Which is not actually waterproof these are pretty good against due on the grass. so if your a locator or someone that just wants a hiking boot that will last you a good while this is the boot for you.
