Great fit

Very comfortable right out of the box. Sturdy shoe but not heavy. Arch support seems good but I always add my own inserts for plantar fasciitis pain. Real nice shoe, would definitely order again!

An excellent light-to-moderate hiking shoe, right out of the box

I have kidded myself for years that I don't need a wider shoe size--but those days are over--due to the need of an ortho insole for arch and footbed support, I need a wider shoe. Also, I have looked at Merrell and other brands as a high-quality walking and hiking shoe for years, but felt they were out of my price range. This shoe, at this price point, is FANTASTIC. Granted, you will not want to step off the plane and into a wedding reception at the country club with these on (maybe in Colorado?), but they are a solid, all-around shoe for hiking or standing at the airport. The shoe offers a serious Vibram tread, with the sort of support you find in a more expensive hiking shoe or boot; plus the uppers are really tight and water-resistant. As a person who's struggled with the smooth, tubular laces that have become popular on athletic and walking shoes, I found the laces on this shoe to be more textured--and thus, they actually hold a knot as long as you need it!! A final observation: I usually pull the factory insoles and use my own, but the set that comes with these shoes is thin enough, but rigid enough, that you need it. I opted for an $8 orthotic from the local supermarket that gave me a bit more arch support and a metatarsal "bump," and simply use those on top. Otherwise, there's not much shock absorption from the rigid tread-sole material. The combination is perfect, and since the uppers are leather, I can feel a real "breaking-in" period around my feet.

Great shoes, excellent quality, watch out for size change from older Merrill

I bought this exact shoe, and model Merrill about 6 years ago. They were excellent quality, and wear well, very comfortable. I would recommend them to anyone. Careful, though, re size. My original shoes are 9.5us size, I can still read the label on the tongue. I first bought 9.5, way too big, exchanged for 9, and 9's are still too big, so exchanged again for 8.5.

A Great Walking Shoe

This is the second pair of this shoe that I have purchased. This pair feels even more comfortable than the first pair. I use these as my all-the-time casual shoe during the cooler months (I tend to wear good tennis type running shoes during shorts weather). They have a reasonable sturdy sole which makes them good for either casual use or for walking on easy trails. The design does not include ankle support, so I do not use these for rough trails. I like the color, and the fit for me is great. I have a narrow foot, so this shoe fits me better than many, certainly better than a Rockport, for instance. I had a Red Wing shoe that I had hopes for, but it was too stiff and was never comfortable to wear. These Merrill shoes were very comfortable right out of the box.

Run small

Excellent shoes, but run a full size small. I typically wear a 9 1/2 to 10. In these I needed an 11.

Size is WAY OFF!

I have been buying Merrell shoes for years and always in a 9 1/2. They always fit like they were made for me. I bought a pair of steel toed work shoes recently, in a 9 1/2 and they were huge. I sent them back 2 times and reordered. Figured ok, maybe its a bad batch or whatever. Finally got a pair that fit. Size 8. I ordered this shoe and the same thing. Literally a size and a half too large. I ordered 9 1/2, the shoes say 9 1/2 Wide, which i didnt order but wouldnt have mattered anyway. They are literally 1 1/2 inches too long. I have ordered this exact shoe in the past in my normal 9 1/2 and they were perfect. I ordered another pair at the same time as these, (also Merrell) and they fit perfectly. I'm done with Merrell. If i cant order their shoes and be confident in the sizing, i dont need them.
