Best footwear I've ever owned! My partner is making me replace them, after 5 years...

After 5 years of wearing these through hikes, travel all around the globe, through rainforests, deserts, European cities, and working in industrial and construction sites...I LOVE these boots! For a second there, I worried that I was becoming my father with his penny-pinching desire to keep the old undies and everything else after they were past being worn out. Thing is, I actually LOVE these and don't want to get rid of them unless I have another set that's the same.Let's see...pros: These tough mother lovers will eat through anything and everything you try to throw their way, and laugh it off as you recover from whatever adventure they took you on. They are superbly comfortable, and they still looked nice until I took them through an 11 mile caving trip through deep water and mud, and didn't clean them because my partner said they have to go now. Does anyone know who would re-sole these? I want the tops on them, still...the leather is so good! They're worth every penny!Cons: You'll never want to get rid of them. They aren't cheap! After 4 years of hard wear (think mixing the light infantry ground pounder with an industrial installation worker standing on slabs of concrete all day and the leather standing up to sharp metal) the soles don't pad your heels quite as well...maybe grab an insole! I wear padded socks with them and still manage just fine! And lastly...careful with the partner you choose...they may insist that you replace your favorite shoes/boots or threaten to burn them when you float the idea of having them re-soled...or so I hear. Ouch! She didn't like that last comment! Better go now! Yo soy el fugitivo!

Comfortable, Quality Boot that Bridges the Gap Between a Work and Hiking Boot

I bought a used pair of these boots online, and quickly followed up with the purchase of a second, new pair. I wear Men's size 15B, and luckily, these boots are not too wide for my narrow feet. I like the fact that these boots have metal eyelets for the laces, which make it easier to pull the laces tight. These boots work especially well while working on steep slopes and hillsides in my yard, as the rear of the boots are padded, and much more comfortable than my normal work boots. On the other hand, if one was going to hike in rough, rocky terrain, I would opt for a sturdier hiking boot--I could feel the rocks through the soles when I recently hiked in that environment. Again, for general wear, work boots, or light hiking in dirt or gravel, these boots will work well for you.

Very comfortable well-made boot.

This boot fits great and has a good grip. My main concerns were the boot being too hot and the outsole wearing out too quickly. It's impossible to find an all-leather upper boot without a waterproof liner built in, and I was worried that such a boot would be too hot for southern Arizona, but I need the leather upper for protection from cactus, rocks and snakes. This boot has been great year round. No overheating problems. The last pair of boots I bought (for $70.) had outsoles that were completely smooth after about 6 months, so they didn't provide adequate grip on the rocky canyon trails I hike. These boots after almost a year still have about 60% of their tread left so hopefully they'll go another 6-12 months. The Vibram name on the sole was a big selling point for me. I'm very happy with these boots.

Attractive and has an already broken-in feel!

I purchased these hiking boots on sale at half price after Thanksgiving. The boots have good-looking soft leather making them feel already broken-in. They are very light, provide excellent grip due to their tread design, and are relatively comfortable. My only suggestion is that they improve the insoles to provide a little more cushion. Also, I probably could’ve used a size 12 wide because this boot feels as if it runs a little narrow. All in all it’s a good boot if you can get it on sale.

Very good hikers!

I've used Merrell for some years now! Always purchased them with VIBRAM sole. They always out last the upper fabric! These time I purchased this model because the upper fabric is leather, hoping it last's as long as the VIBRAM sole.Already put some hiking miles on them, and have come to find out they are relay comfortable, I could had got away with a pair that was not W (wide). They fit a bit loos on the toes, but it's Ok.The upper leather is soft and, the high ankle support helps with walking firmly.

Construction and wear

Was looking for a new hiking shoe. My previous experience with Merrill shoes has been positive. Well constructed and long lasting. Fit is very good. I expect long life from these shoes.
