Worked great for our iceland trip. Comfortable for hiking and durable
Decent fit, and the closure is a good alternative to velcro and laces, but it doesn't quite fit the foot shape as well. Tends to lift up towards the front of the foot, and it's tighter towards the ankle. Mechanism can also get hard to slide if sand gets into it.
Great shoes, will buy again in the next size up!
I tried to like these shoes. I just can't quite make it.Shoes for children need to be easy to put on, the younger the child, the easier they need to be. Toddler children tend to curl their toes when you go to put their shoes on, making the task more challenging. Moms often have to loosen the shoe strings considerably to accomplish the fete, then tug the ties to tighten them back up. Preschoolers want to yank their shoes on independently. They still might need to loosen the shoe to put it on, though. These shoes just don't loosen. There is a gimmicky little closure that only adjusts a tiny bit either way - to tighten or loosen the shoe. The gimmick slides maybe half an inch total. Half an inch. Not enough to open up the shoe and get a recalcitrant foot inside. The little gimmick is very hard to move! I really struggle to move it. My four, five, and seven year old grandsons couldn't move it, either. Now, a five and seven year old are certainly capable of tying their own shoes, so these new tennis shoes make the job of putting on your shoes much harder! Not easier at all.The only good feature about these shoes is that they are waterproof. I'm not sure though, if they are waterproof, then are they going to be too sweaty? Most athletic shoes allow air to circulate, allowing the shoes to breathe. But if the shoe can breathe, then it probably leaks. So what does moab mean? I hadn't heard that expression before, so maybe I'm really behind the times. It stands for "Mother of all boots." I have no idea what "low Zt" stands for. I tried to google it, got no hits. I emailed the company, but don't yet have an answer. Is it "Zero Tolerance"? or "zip tie" - referring to the bungee style closure? Okay, I'll go out on a limb here. Maybe it's Zombie Tested. Finally, I looked up the 10 Best Kids Hiking Shoes in the US. This shoe isn't on the list, but the company Merrell is. The first, second, third, sixth, ninth, and tenth shoes were all made by Merrell. I imagine that when you're at the top of the list, you have to keep trying to improve anyway. Sorry Merrell. You'll have to go back to the drawing table for this one. My advice: Go with Merrell, but not this shoe.
I love the Merrell brand and many of our family's favorite shoes are from Merrell. These new kids' hiking shoes are of excellent quality. They provide awesome traction and are waterproof. These are great for summer hiking days and splashing in the river. They look great too! The closure mechanism is somewhat difficult to use. My five-year-old cannot put these shoes on by himself (and he puts on and takes off pretty much all his other shoes on his own). It really takes an adult to adjust them. They also don't open much at all, so if your child has wider feet or is resistant to putting on shoes, these may not work for you. That being said, these stay on super well and my child says they are very comfortable. We will be using these on hiking trips with mom or dad, but not for school or other places where my child may need to get his shoes on and off by himself.
Merrell is always known for their quality brands, and even though was skeptical that they durability would compete with my kiddo’s rough history with shoes (always ripping the toes out), I ended up pleasantly surprised that these have been more durable than the usual shoes we buy. These shoes were very well built, and my 10 year old says they are comfortable and easy to get on. When he wears shoes that he likes, he wears them daily, so for over a month they have endured daily use and they have held up. Would highly recommend!
My sone likes these, easy to close (faster than tying) and they’ve held up so far, now a month into really rough use… but seems are a little frayed, so the durability doesn’t seem extremely high.
