Sturdy "Barefoot" Ankle Boot
Love these ankle boots. I wanted something akin to the barefoot style/type shoe that had a sturdier sole for winter and with better tread since I live in a cold, snow and icy place. I love my Hike barefoot shoes have both regular and winter version but the winter version though it is fur lined is not all that warm and the soles are not great on slippery surfaces. Merrel to the rescue - these boots are warm and excellent tread on the soles. They also have a nice wide toe box and feel much like my barefoot shoes. They are light and comfortable. They are comfortable right out of the box after wearing a few days they are even more comfortable. These Merrel's weigh 1 pound 5 oz only 3 ounces more than the Hike winter shoes. Very happy with my purchase, feel more secure on slippery surfaces and my feet are nice and warm. If you love the barefoot type shoes you should love these.

Best hiking shoes ever!
Amazingly comfortable! Wore them for a gorilla trek and some safaris and was never uncomfortable. They brush off dirt easily and look like new. Although I don’t hike, they would be perfect hiking shoes. I could not have been more impressed. The color is neutral yet appealing. I did walk through a steam during trekking and my socks did not get wet…so waterproof! And, I never ‘broke them in’…comfortable immediately!

Best shoes I’ve purchased in years.
These are my new favorite shoes! So cute. I’ve worn them three times to break them in to be my new summer hiking shoes and I don’t want to take them off. They are super warm and comfortable. The grip is outstanding on ice and snow. Very pleased with my purchase. I have a wide foot and ordered a 7.5. They fit perfectly.

Not a true foot shape
This shoe is stylish which is why I think Merrill shied away from a true foot shape. If you have a narrow foot and would like an in town shoe, this can work. As a hiker foot shape, absolutely not! 1. The foot shape does not allow for anything other than a narrow foot. If you have a medium or wide foot and/or you want to wear thicker socks, forget it. Hey Merrill, match your foot shape competitors for true toe splay that allows for every foot. 2. Does NOT offer any protection from gravel, small rocks, or sharp edges. I mean zero. Unless you are on a flat surface, forget it. Merrill, offer a sole that can actually take a hike and provide at least some cushion from the road. 3. I give Merrill credit for getting into the zero drop side of the business, but please do your homework. For now, look to other zero drop companies like Altra, etc. There are many now to choose from.
