Light weight and good traction
I had another pair of these that I use for short hikes and it is definately a summer hiker unless you sock up. This pair was purchased to get the same support around the house. I walk alot during the day in my office/home due to having a desk job. I like the support these provide and that they are solid on my feet and force me to put my feet flat on the floor under my desk. So far great for this purpose. Good purchase.

My go-to brand.....!!!!
This is a great "boot" .......!!! I have bought Merrell in the past and they are my go-to for comfortable footwear.Wore these on my trip to Beartooth Mts & the the Grand Tetons. My feet were warm, dry, & traversed the trails with ease.

VERY LIGHT & HI_TECH...BUT...
I wanted to treat myself to a new pair of hiking shoes as I had a good-sized return credit on my amazon Account. I ordered what was one of the higher end Merrill Boots and eagerly awaited their arrival. They came, I tried them on, the fit was good, they were nice and light but I didn't feel that the external toe cap was sufficiently protected (I've been wearing Merrills for 25+ yr) and although the shoe was made with the latest hi-tech materials, they didn't feel like they would last more than 6 months, even tho' they cost $200+I returned them and bought a less expensive, better made Merrill...the dark grey ones in the photo. They are great, take a lot of punishment and I expect at least a year if not more out of them. the price was also 40% less than the green/brown pair.

Runs true to size no need for bigger or smaller sizes when you buy
Best fitting shoes i think I've ever owned for real for real! And the grip/tread is bananas! Great hiking shoes also they look pretty good as just shoes with shorts and a short sleeve shirt as well just on a casual day.

Good off road trail runner explorer.
Cool shoe. Feels light. Mid durability as far as I can tell in the 2 or so months owning the shoe. Soft ish midsole. Got in wide. Feels great.

So Far So Good
I am moving from the Moab 2 Mids Leather. I have had them for many many years and they have been amazing. I love the bottoms for the grip like glue on boulders and ledges. I was looking for durability, the same grip, and a bit more cushion. The Speed 2's have the same vibro bottoms, and they seem to grip the same so far. The GTX is not near as breathable, but that is the trade off for waterproof. There is definitely more cushion. This comes with a bit of rise feeling and less ground feel, but it takes away a lot of the compression in the knees and hips. The toe bed is more wide on the Speed 2's. I'm going to have to put more miles on them to make a solid decision on this. I believe the rest of the shoe and the correct lacing will alleviate too much forward slide (inside the boot...toes to the front) as to offset the wide toe bed. The sock like tongue is an upgrade for sure. The weight is quite light, but the Speed 2's feel a bit more substantial; I don't want to sat a bit clunky. Pro tip. Get a good scotch guard spray and spray them twice before wearing. They will shed dust and dirt and will remain easily washable for extra years!
