Comfortable great fit
I have been wearing work boots in construction, specifically around concrete and trucks, for 30 years. These boots are not what I am used to seeing as they combine a wedge sole with an industrial non-slip tread. Some companies require a heeled boot because it keeps you from slipping off of steps on ladders and such, so make sure you are allowed to have wedge soles before getting a pair. Wedge sole are good for standing for long hours as a heeled boot concentrates your weight on either the heel or the ball of your foot as you try get comfortable after standing for hours, which aggravates back problems. These boots come with two pair of insoles. One pair in the boot already and another pair in the box that are made to give someone with a wide foot more comfort in case the original insole is to tight on their feet. That is great! I have high arches, and these boots do have a good arch support. I wear thick cushioned socks with work boots and did not need the extra insoles. I usually wear a size 12M and these boots were just slightly loose fitting for me so I added an additional thin flat memory foam insole on top of the one already installed and they fit snug with no slipping. These boots seem to be true heavy work boots with the weight and material that goes along with it. I was impressed with the heft and quality of the leather as soon as I picked them up. True work boots are not light as they have to be made of heavy leather and material to provide protection in all kinds of harsh environments. These boots fit this category. These are built and rated for electrical and toe crush hazards with the insulated sole, hard composite toe cap, and even a sole shank for protection against nails or sharp objects. The leather and stitching are heavy as you would expect, and they will take a little while to break in to where the upper bends easily with foot movement. Much like an older military boot. The boots have a moderate cushioning liner in the foot area that takes stress off of the top of the arch, which can help when you have problems in that area, but they are not lined with a typical sock sewn insert which many manufacturers do that eventually seperates from the leather upper and makes it hard to get the boot on and off. These boots are also made to be water resistant. Leather work boots are not usually water 'proof' as leather is porous and will eventually get soaked either from sweat or from standing in water unless a treatment like boot oil or leather conditioner is applied and they are allowed to dry after each work day. The liner is made to keep the foot from being in contact with any sweating that may occur while working to protect the foot from any harm such as the dreaded 'trench foot' that comes with closing your feet up in a soaked boot for hours. I wore them to a jobsite for several hours and they became more comfortable as the day wore on.I am impressed with the build and comfort of these boots and have high hopes for their longevity at work. The only area where I am a little skeptical is in the elastic ankle bands used to hold the boot on and allow it to be easily slipped on and off. I do not see any issues with it, just that I am not used to seeing this in a heavy weight work boot.As these boots come in a clean state like most work boots, I rubbed mink oil in them as a conditioner and water treatment as most people do to keep them from being affected from anything I encounter on the job. So far these are working out great and worth the price for the quality build!
These are of great durable contruction. True to size and very comfortable. I have used them outside sever times now and they seem to hold up really nice. Even against water surprisingly. My favorite thing about these shoes is that they are slip-on and don’t have to worry about laces.
As I've gotten older, I've become a big fan of slip on anything, but particularly boots. Not having to sit down and contend with long laces and variable skyscrapers of speed hooks goes a long way with me. What surprised me most about these boots is, that in spite of being a slip on fit, they feel very tough and robust on my feet. The insole is very soft and comfortable, and the sizing pretty true to my actual foot size. I'm an 11-11.5, my wife got me the 11.5 and anything else would be either too big or too small. The leather feels very thick and high quality. I can tell already that there will be a break in period with these puppies to soften up the leather uppers and to put a little more sprint into the sole, which is very thick and equipped with a very grippy, aggressive tread. If you have wider feet, these boots came in box with an alternate pair of inserts that broaden the width should you find your pair immediately too narrow. Due to a repeat offender broken toe on my right foot, that particular tootsie is a smidge wider than my left, but I found the width to be ample without having to swap inserts (for reference, I'd put my left foot at a C-D width and my right more of a D-E). Moreover, worn with jeans, the boots look pretty fashionable as well. They're very warm, and though I've not had a chance to test their water resistance, the thickness of the leather and the welt have me pretty confident they're going to hold up well once the snow starts flying around here.If there's a down side, it's that they're a bit heavy and stiff right out of the box. I don't expect the weight factor to change, but with wear and breaking in, I expect these will feel like a second skin, soon enough.
There are two takeaways from the pictures I provided. First, compared to an actual size 8 boot you can see the toe box is much higher. Second, again compared to an actual size 8 boot these boots are over an inch longer. The result of these oversized boots is my heel slips up and down while walking and my toes barely reach the composite toe, so it offers no protection. I would guess that these size 8 boots are closer to a size 9 or 9.5 making them unwearable for me.
Folks that need a larger size know how challenging it can be to find a good pair of boots at a reasonable price. When I saw that these boots came in a men's 13, I was truly excited - though I was concerned, because other brands often run so small that there is no room to wear a thick sock. These were unfortunately the opposite - they ran so large that they are loose on the foot and we're unable to use them. It's such a shame, since everything else about them seems to be very high quality and attractive.Due to the poor fit, I can't faithfully comment on durability or comfort. All I can offer is to perhaps order down one size for a better fit.
Interesting look, comfortable, functional:This product has an interesting and very casual look to it, making it ideal for a boot that is primarily a day to day boot, where you'd wear it out to a restaurant or similar, but also functions as a workboot when needed. The product slips on seamlessly and is very convenient to put on, providing a surprising amount of ankle support to help prevent injury, despite not having laces. The boot is comfortable yet functional, providing a great deal of protection in the toe area especially. It's anti-slip soles also work well on slick surfaces.Overall, this is a good product and I would recommend.
