I Was Waiting for These to Come in All Black!
I’m required to wear black boots for work and was disappointed that these didn’t come in all black since I have a blue/orange pair that have been my favorite off-duty shoes for over a year. So I jumped on these when I saw them finally available in all black. They’re true to size and the overall design looks great on my foot. They’re super comfortable and my feet don’t get wet walking through snow or in the rain. These were less expensive than the blue or brown ones out there. I love the way they feel on my feet when they grip the concrete, and they also hold up well in light mud and wet grass. The only negatives are that the laces tend to loosen up by the end of the day, and I wish there was a bit more padding in the uppers to make them feel extra luxurious. Otherwise, these shoes are high quality, light-weight and durable. They’re great for jobs that don’t require heavy duty boots, but where you need a shoe that can hold up to the elements and feel comfortable on your feet all day. They’re better than the Thorogood Crosstrex or Merrel Moab boots in design, durability, comfort, repelling water, etc. and highly recommend them.

Comfortable and weather-resistant sneaker boot
I've purchased several previous pairs of New Balance Hierros, but for my job I needed black, so these are perfect. Some of the reviewers note that toe-piece seams fail over time. I haven't had a catastrophic failure like the ones cited in the reviews, but I've definitely noticed that the toe-piece stitching is the weak point on these shoes. The laces they provide with the Hierro have improved, but more substantial lacing hooks would be desirable as the laces can loosen and jump the hooks during heavy activity. Otherwise, these are super sneaker boots, and I wear them every day. They are extremely comfortable, and reasonably weather-resistant. I'd say the durability is pretty good, considering that these are basically a glorified sneaker. I would like to see them in other subdued color schemes suitable for law enforcement, like olive drab or coyote.

Great hiking boot
I’ve worn em up mountains and also walking around downtown. Comfy, stylish, and I haven’t been able to break them yet. Offers good support for the foot and keeps good traction on loose angled terrain. Size is typical for NB shoes, true to the number. Color is nice, understated. It does the job and looks good free taking a beating.

Great Hiking Shoe for Mixed Terrain – But Watch the Tongue!
The New Balance Fresh Foam X Hierro Mid is an excellent hiking shoe—comfortable, durable, and perfect for switching between terrains, including water. The grip is solid, and the cushioning makes long hikes much more enjoyable. Whether you’re on rocky trails, muddy paths, or shallow streams, these shoes hold up really well. The only downside is the tongue can be irritating if you’re not wearing long socks. It tends to rub against the skin, which can get uncomfortable over time. But as long as you pair them with the right socks, they’re a fantastic choice for outdoor adventures.Highly recommend for hikers looking for comfort, durability, and versatility!

These have turned out to be great
I had to get the 15 x wide for toe room and width but now the fit is great. Whether I'm walking city streets or forest trails these are comfortable, light weight and support my ankles well. They don't get too hot and don't pick up aot of little stones or dirt. Great model. I looked at lots of different possibilities.Really happy I found these.

Not waterproof
I would really like a breathable, waterproof hiking shoe but these are not. They are the most water RESISTANT shoes I have purchased on Amazon & certainly worth $50 but not $120. I have goretex outer wear that is impervious to water so it is hard to understand why these were not the same. I did not even test them in rain, standing water, puddles, creeks or streams; only in 4-6 in long grass after a steady rain. Water only seeped in slightly at the toe but if more water, rain or foliage was present it would be worse. On a positive note the shoes are very comfortable. The laces require double tying - irritating. The eyelets in the shoe are not reinforced so the hole is deforming. Other lace “cleats” are a fabric that may be coming loose at the stitching. The top 2 cleats are metal & are fine. There is a “lip” at the bottom rear heal that almost looks like mold forming excess that should have been trimmed. It may serve as a toe pry point to ease remove of shoe. However it collects dirt & sometimes catches on brush. Hope this aids your decision tree.
