These are awesome...fit great ....this is my 4th pair over the years ....
This is a great pair of light hikers. They are very sturdy and well built. They are a bit bulky and weighty, but I put that in the plus column for a pair of shoes like this. This is my 3rd pair of Oboz and I’ve generally been impressed with them; 2 of the 3 pairs have been pretty much bullet proof. I will say that Oboz don’t do great on slick surface such as ice, packed snow, or wet, smooth concrete. No shoe does great on these surfaces but Oboz definitely underperform in this one area. Also be aware that these shoes are not waterproof; if the shoes get wet your feet will too.
The fit was perfect and the quality was outstanding.
My second Oboz, no doubt will buy a 3rd when this pair wears out. There is much to like about these shoes. They provide excellent support, are well cushioned and comfortable to wear after a short break-in. The shoes breath well, no problem at all with sweat build-up. Appearnce is under-stated, fine for my taste. Traction is excellent. The width seems a slight-bit narrow but acceptable. The provided shoe-strings are just OK, a little short too. Waterproofing is OK for this non-Gortex material.
I never thought I’d buy a pair of Oboz shoes - really what I consider to be out of my price range. I’m so glad my wife upped my allowance.I’m 6 feet tall and 235 lbs (don’t judge) and wear a 10.5W. These are true to size. These were fairly comfortable out of the box. I’ve been wearing them for a week, and they’ve become even more comfortable.I have to admit I hate the laces. I replaced them with a pair of elastic laces, and have absolutely no regrets.I highly recommend these.
Honestly, one of the best hiking shoes I’ve ever owned. I used to swear by Merrell Moab’s, but these are sturdier. The new version got a bad rep compared to the original Sawtooth, but imho the new version is better. For one, the Sawtooth X is a real wide. I bought a pair of the original Sawooth’s in wide and let me tell you, they are not actual wides. I believe that’s confirmed somewhere online, maybe the manufacturers website. Also, the sole of the newer version is more stable. I know people swore by the old version, but they were the only shoe I’ve ever worn that made me feel that my ankles could twist inwards. I returned the original version and got the X instead.I was a little worried at first, as they started off rather tight (even the wides). However, after a few miles and 2-3 walks in the rain, they have loosened up nicely. They have kept my feet dry despite not being waterproof. They are still a bit snug, but nothing too bad. I also use them to work out and have even ran in them fairly regularly if needed. Obviously they’re not running shoes, but in a pinch they’ve done just fine.I’d like to see a little more width in the wides, but that would probably be the only thing I’d change. Not a fan of the insole they come with but that’s an easy fix.
INITIAL REVIEW:These shoes fit great, so much so that I immediately ordered a second pair. Unfortunately, after less than 100 miles in the woods, the bottoms are already separating from the tops on the first pair. I'm sorry to see that Oboz is engaged in a rush to shoddiness. They've certainly lost me as a customer.AMENDED A FEW MONTHS LATER: After less than 150 miles on these, the soles totally separated from the tops. (Fortunately, I keep duct tape in my pack just in case something like this happens -- otherwise I would have had to have hobbled 6 miles back to my car.) As I mentioned above, I had bought two pairs of these. I just threw out the first pair and donated the second pair (unopened) to a charity bin. In the box, I included a note apologizing to the recipient for gifting them such a lousy pair of hiking boots.Aside from the unfortunate tendency to literally fall apart, these shoes have another problem: they tighten up by themselves! On hikes, I found myself constantly fiddling with them to keep loosening them.I don't know if this is a limited quality control issue or whether the company is taking a nose dive in the quality dept. However, as I indicated in my original review, I won't be around to find out. Never buying Oboz again.
