Impressed
On a recent trip to Alaska, I visited an REI store and wasn't planning on buying shoes but kind of needed something waterproof for a day cruise in wet weather. This was my first time even trying on a pair of ON shoes of any kind. I have very finicky, size 13 B width feet and shoe shopping is always a hassle. I also suffer from plantar fasciitis when standing for long periods and my feet are sensitive to pressure points anywhere, top or bottom of many shoes. So if I find a shoe that has minimal irritations, I don't really care so much about cost. For me this shoe has no significant pressure points which is rare. It does not however eliminate my planter fasciitis, but if I keep moving I'm generally ok.It is a bit wider and roomier than I need toward the front of the shoe but doesn't slip at all in the heel which a lot of shoes do for me. The footbed feels great and has the right amount of cushioning for light trail use in my opinion. Not firm, good cushion, but not too squishy. The traction seems very good on slick surfaces. I never once slipped on the boat deck in the rain while being rocked by waves. My feet stayed completely dry and the shoe seems to not be as hot as some Goretex shoes I've had. Not sure how they fare in 90f + degrees though. I consider this shoe a rare 5 star shoe for me and will be back to try more ON shoes in the future.
