These Shoes Survived Gettysburg — and So Did My Feet
Wore during a family trip. Only time I was not wearing these is when I was dressed up for a wedding:IL, IN, KY, TN, GA, SC, NC, WV, VA, PA, OH, IN and back to IL.The rain during our travel was endless (except during my time at Gettysburg, it stopped or didn't catch up to us until I was at location of the "First shot of the battle marker" when we were departing.I received these Cana slip-on boat shoes through Vine and figured they'd be good for casual use—something quick and easy for the summer. What I didn’t expect was how well they’d handle one of the most demanding "field tests" I could throw at them: walking the entire Gettysburg battlefield over the course of several long days. The weather was cloudy, and while it didn’t rain while we were out there, the grass and ground were still wet each morning from overnight showers. So every step started with that cold, damp feeling you get walking through wet grass—but these shoes held up beautifully. They dried quickly, stayed breathable, and never once got waterlogged. Before I go into it, these are worth every single penny. I did not need my arch support for these, they supported my feet perfectlyFor context, I’m 6'4", 285 lbs, (now 275) and have a surgically repaired fifth metatarsal on my left foot and a still-healing one on my right. Usually, I need inserts just to get through a basic day. But I wore these shoes without inserts for several days straight and covered a ridiculous amount of ground:I walked the entire Confederate battle line, tracing it from the far right flank near Benner’s Hill all the way around Seminary Ridge and down toward the Peach Orchard.I walked the full Union line—starting on Culp’s Hill, through Cemetery Hill, across Cemetery Ridge, and all the way to Little Round Top.I climbed and explored Little Round Top itself—up and down rocky steps and uneven terrain, with no traction issues.I spent time walking all over Culp’s Hill, through the woods, over roots, rocks, and damp ground.I made my way through the entire Gettysburg National Cemetery, quietly walking among the markers and along the paths, again with no discomfort in my feet. The entire two days, I easily cleared 7–10 miles of walking—some of it on paved paths, but much of it over uneven ground, wet grass, stones, gravel, and packed dirt trails. These shoes never slipped, never rubbed, and never let me down. Devils Den, walking over the boulders, taking my time, not even a slight slip on the wet rocks.By the end of the last day my body was sore—knees, hips, lower back—but not my feet. Not a single blister or hotspot. That’s not something I can say about most of the footwear I’ve owned over the years, even those designed for hiking. The size 13 fit was spot-on. They’re easy to slip on and off, but secure enough that I never worried about stability or losing a shoe mid-step. They’re also incredibly lightweight, so I never felt like I was dragging them through the mud. And for being fabric-based, they held up better than expected through everything I put them through.

Lightweight, comfortable, and well-cushioned with simple but pleasant aesthetics.
I’ll start by saying that I feel these loafers are more attractive in person than they are in the photos provided by the manufacturer. As soon as I opened the box, my girlfriend immediately chimed in with an “oh, those are nice” – so to me, that’s a good start and something of an endorsement in my choosing these loafers, lol.The white soles, with the tan uppers are a nice combination, and the lighter-tan heal portion of the upper, coupled with the subtle stripes near the heal, make for an attractive use of colors and design elements. When I look at these shoes, I see the beach, being on the water, and walking on the docks….good stuff. The fabric material of the upper portions of the loafers is a soft, thin cloth-like material, typical of what some loafers are constructed from. The soles are made from soft and forgiving EVA foam, making the shoes not only lightweight, but amply cushioned, comfortable, and form-fitting. These are comfortable as soon as you put them on, and with bare feet they required virtually no break in time for me. Also, I almost always wear a size 9 shoe, thus I ordered these in a size 9 and the fit is perfect, so my recommendation would be to order the size you typically wear. Inside the shoes there are thick, cushioned inserts that are removeable, and worthy of note is the sharp-looking contrasting yellow color of the interior portions of the uppers. Thus far, I have found that traction on pavement, interior floor surfaces like tile and carpet, as well as my wooden deck and dry grass, to be good. I did note that on wet tile floors, these can be a bit slippery. On my wet wooden deck they seem to do OK. I’m unsure about other surfaces and conditions at this point. There are laces on the loafers that are actually functional. The laces are elastic and they stretch slightly to make getting your feet into the shoes easy, and once you have them on your feet, the laces provide a touch of tension to keep the tongue portion of the shoes slightly snug to the top of your feet. It’s a nice design feature in my estimation. All around, these are pleasant shoes to walk around in, and I think they look equally good wearing a pair of shorts, or casually with a pair of jeans. I find them to be comfortable and lightweight, and I only really have one gripe about them – the current selling price of $70. I know I can be a little old school, but even given what I see to be a good quality, nice looking pair of shoes, I can’t justify the price being at $70. Frankly, I think the cost should probably be half of that. Given the current price, I see these as four-star loafers – if the price comes down to a reasonable level, well, then we would see these on a path for five stars.

What Better for Warm Rain?
People don't wear rain boots here. You'd look like a foreigner. But sandals aren't always comfortable, and slippahs are kind of dangerous when wet, especially walking uphill. You slide right back out of them. Hard to get traction. This seemed the perfect closed shoe for my husband, in a good neutral tone that wasn't black. They give good traction on wet concrete which lots of soft shoes don't, have thick enough soles for protection on asphalt and gravel, and won't come off getting through shallow mud. While, sure, your feet get wet, they will anyway when it's rainy enough. At least these still function for walking, while being as easy on and off as his favorite sandals. They also aren't as weighty as the heavily-engineered chunky athletic shoes. All in all, a good acquisition.
