Does not last
Update May 2013: Although I wrote this recommendation several years ago, the boot did not last under low use even for a year. First it lost its support and then other parts started breaking down.***********My husband's hard-to-fit wide foot finds this hiking boot to be comfortable and supportive during and after several all-day hikes on rough, rocky trails. Works well for his high arches, long toes and wide feet. Supportive without being hard to break in, plus they look good for casual winter use. Minor point: the Velcro side closing wore out after the first few days so he cut them off. The size zipper is still helpful so you don't have to re-tie laces each time they go on and off. Overall, he is very happy with the boots (though they're not heavily built, so may not last many years)for hard-to-fit feet.

ok for light hiking
Despite the name "summit walker", I can't recommend these for mountain climbing. The shoe soles are much flexier than real mountaineering boots, which can make them uncomfortable and unstable on rocky terrain. For walking on easy trails and pavement, they are fine. These boots are wider than many other lightweight boots, which improves stability as well as giving you room for wider feet. I like that the laces extended all the way down to the toe so you can really tighten them if you want. The paper-thin insoles is pretty worthless; I replaced them with padded insoles instead. The heel cup is nicely designed and keeps your foot from sliding around in the boot and causing blisters. The zipper feature doesn't work very well, especially if you have thick socks. I think these boots would be better without the zipper and with a faster lacing system instead. These are fine light hiking boots when the price drops below $40. Above that, and there are plenty of better options.

Good boot for the price
The boot has great sole traction. I've been wearing it on ice and snow and it's been pretty good. It's not the warmest boot for winter You really need an extra pair of socks to keep your feet warm. Plus, it's low cut so it can let snow in if you're out in anything more than a few inches of fresh stuff. The zipper on the side doesn't zip exactly to the top, but maybe 1/16th of an inch off. It's probably a good feature, but I have basically been using the laces that easily loosen and tighten again. The laces keep tied up because they are some sort of woven material. The laces go way down to the toe of the boot which allows the boot to conform to the shape of your foot.I ordered a 11 3e (wide). My feet are slightly wider than a Wide (which is usually classified as 2e), and these boots are slightly wider than a 2e, however just barely wide enough (maybe I should have got a 5e?).The fabric and leather quality is good. I'd say this is a pretty good boot for $50.I didn't give it five stars because there could be better boots out there, but probably not for $50 or less.

Fantastic boot for the value!
My husband has feet that are very difficult to fit...they are very wide and he has issues with the ball of his foot, as well as a very high instep. He usually has to wear a pair of shoes or boots at hour increments, building up a tolerance to what they make his feet feel like. The Propet Summit walker arrived in a timely manner , was packed well and looked good when we opened the package. He was very surprised and happy to find that they not only fit his unusual feet, but were very comfortable right out of the box!The price we got them for was unbelievably low and he will have many happy hours hiking and walking in them.Thank you for a very nice boot ant a VERY nice price!

not worth the money
The zippers on these shoes are white metal junk. They both broke within one week. I really liked how the shoes fit but it cost me $30 to have the zippers replaced. I would recommend that you not buy them

Serviceable but a bit large for size
The shoe is OK for the price. Traction is very good. My main complaint is that the shoe was too large for a size 10. I've bought other shoes of this brand and they fit well. I can use the shoes by doubling up on socks.

No break in required & Wide Width
Bought these for my husband because we were going on vacation and wanted to do some hiking and walking trails. I owned the ladies version and talked him into getting some. His comments were that he never owned a pair of boots that did not require some breaking in. He said the boots were comfortable from the very first and could not believe that Pro Pet made such great shoes in wide width (5E). He is very hard to fit and now he is a believer. Pro Pet makes the best fitting, most comfortable shoes.
