Great Shoe at a Great Price -- love Propet Shoes!
I suffer from Plantar Fascitis and need to wear shoes with a slightly higher heel. I also cannot wear high heels any more, due to back problems and also a broken ankle a few years ago. Needed something a little dressier and these fit the bill. I ordered the black smooth and I really like them -- they are not too shiny and not too dull. I wear them with dress pants, casual slacks and also with jeans - I am sure they would also work with dresses or skirts -- I just don't wear them often. I can wear them all day without a problem, as long as there is not a lot of walking involved. Walking all day in these made my feet tired, but it could just be me; I am so used to wearing sneakers most of the time. I have found Propet products to be of good quality and long wearing. I have Propet sandals and sneakers in my shoe wardrobe. I wore one pair of sandals for 5 years before I finally replaced them with the exact same style. If you want a comfortable shoe with a classic styling, this shoe is the one you want!

I'm glad I did
I got the proper Mary Jane walker in smooth black leather. I accidentally ordered size 9 W by accident, I usually wear 9.5 W. I'm glad I did, I have some toe and heel room. They are very comfy with the odor proof inserts and I have yet to try my own so I can't comment on that yet. Only issue is I have eripheral neuropathy, high arches with swelling. The top foot straps could be a bit longer. I may have to have a shoemaker add a bit of velcro that would make it perfect. There is plenty of toe room, I currently have had a toe nail lift because of chafing in my old shoes. The heel well in the back is roomy but does not chafe. The shoes fit well and wearing a thicker sock is not a problem or two layer insert. It will take the leather some wear to soften up for taking the push off steps. I love the wider stance and stability of the shoe and the fact my husband commented that they were attractive and didn't look like orthopedic shoes. Good purchase.

Perfect for work
I have worn this style Propet shoe for years. The first time I purchased a pair I was looking for something that would be professional looking for me to wear with pants to work without pinching or making my feet swell more. As a diabetic it is hard to find shoes in my area that will not only fit but are affordable. These shoes are quality made, look very nice and are comfortable to walk in. The first day on my new job I had to do considerable walking around campus and my feet never hurt. I highly recommend these shoes to anyone looking for something for work.

Quality has slid over the years...
These have been my go-to work shoes since 2006. They used to fit very well & endure heavy use. They were my favorite walking shoe for a long time, despite their dowdy & somewhat dorky appearance (I think it is the velcro closure combined with no-frills plain style). However, I've noticed that the overall quality of this model has been sliding and sizing consistency has declined. I used to be a size 9.5, which was roomy but never slipped off my feet and provided great support. The last 9.5 I purchased was super tight and caused bleeding, deep heel blisters after only one day of use. The shoe seemed especially snug/low in the open part between the strap and top of shoe -- when I removed my shoes, I noticed an indentation on top of my foot. I've never had this issue with other pairs, and my feet haven't grown. Also, the strap broke off after about a month of use. Sadly, I won't be buying another pair again. Great while they lasted & had quality control in place, though!

I have narrow heal, wide and fat toes, so I need a deep toe box. These shoes fit my toes. The heal is not narrow enough, but almost. I should have a combination last shoe, but it's next to impossible to find. I also wear orthotics for flat feet, I'm 66 and active. The shoe already has an arch support, but does not have the heal cradling needed for anti-pronation. Wish the company would add that, then I wouldn't need the orthotics in this shoe. There is enough cushioning to be comfortable for all-day use. As we age, we need more cushioning for the sole of the foot. A problem I've had with hook and loop fasteners on shoes is that they can't be tightened correctly for my foot. I always have to remove and resew after shortening the length. These shoes fit me perfectly at that point. The smooth (tread pattern not like a sneaker) soles mean that I don't catch on surfaces. I want these for dancing, Contra and English Country, and think they will work well. They squeak, thus a 4, not a 5. I usually buy Drew shoes and have several pairs, but they have gone up to $130+, ouch! How they will hold up to dancing for 2 hours, twice a week, we'll see.

When I first bought this shoe, 13 years ago, the leather was a higher quality on both the insole and the shoe itself. Over the years, I have bought 4 pairs of the black Propet Mary Jane Walker. The first two pairs were the better leather. That being said, it is still an excellent shoe, just not as shiny or as soft as it once was.If you are on your feet all day, standing/walking on a hard surface, this shoe will provide the needed support and protection for your feet. My feet measure right at a C width and just a hair over a size 6. Wearing Hue cotton socks, I find the size 6 1/2 Wide fits great.The Propet Mary Jane Walker is an added depth shoe. This allows for an added insole if you need extra cushioning, or for a replacement insole that is thicker. With the adjustable strap, the extra above room in the toe allows for various thicknesses of socks.If you wear pants that cover the Velcro strap, these shoes look almost as pretty as a pump, and surely more feminine than a clog or an oxford.Overall, great for teachers, waitresses, sales clerks, or anyone on their feet a lot.
